Police nab car thief hours after he stole it
Burdine
MONTICELLO – A Monticello man who stole a car from in front of Burger King on Route 42 in the Town of Thompson on Sunday, February 11, was apprehended hours later at the Heritage Inn on Broadway in Monticello.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was called at 3:45 p.m. for a report of a stolen car that was left running when the owner went inside to buy food. When he came out, the car was gone.
Deputies notified local police of the theft and at 7:25 p.m., the car was spotted by a Monticello officer at the Heritage Inn. When the officer approached, the suspect, Andre Burdine, 31, of Monticello, took off, but was apprehended.
Video footage from Burger King showed Burdine getting into the car and driving off.
He was turned over to the sheriff’s office and charged with felony grand larceny and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
“Car theft is not common in Sullivan County,” said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty. “But when it does occur, it is usually because the driver left the keys in the ignition.”
The undersheriff urged all car owners to secure their vehicles while stopping.
Well he didn't go far shit $5 gets you almost anywhere in Monticello by cab
