That would make these things a lot more pratical. I'm not sure how comfy in the shoulder a barace would be under 12 gauge recoil though.

I was mainly worried if New York State considers pistol braces stocks and therefore would class this as a short barreled shotgun
I've never shot anything with a pistol brace on it but from what I've read they are not as substantial or ergonomic as a proper shoulder stock. If so hard plastic edges being driven into my shoulder under 12 gauge recoil sounds unpleasant. I mean I know the part ofnthe brace that is meant to strap arpund the wrist is rubbery or foam like but doesn't that mean that shouldering one is kinda like shouldering a naked buffer tube?

No restriction on 18'' barrel and up. Under 18'' gets the tax stamp. OA length is unrestricted unless it is a semi auto. Pumps are GTG.

I would say DO NOT ALTER a Shockwave or Tac 14. I know we all like to look for the cracks and loopholes in the law either to possess something cool or just to stick it to FUAC but the ATF letter and reasons that the Shockwave falls outside AOW and SBS status is very specific. Much of it has to do with "as manufactured". As I understand it it would not be legal to alter a Mossberg 590 by cutting it down to 14" and adding the birdshead grip (essentially creating the exact same gun) without going through the NFA rigamarole. I'm no lawyer but I have read the letter and ruling. Do what you will, but do you really want to be the guy who gets to be the test case? Remember, this item is not a pistol like an AR pistol it is a very specific item designed to fall into a very narrow gap in the existing code. Goyas picture sums it up pretty well.

The paperwork that came with my shockwave very clearly says do not alter this weapon or you could jam yourself up. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

I think the problem they are warning of is that a traditional pistol grip will bring it under 26". Also, if you bolt on a regular shotgun shoulder stock it becomes a sbs.

Just installed the SB brace on a Mossberg Shockwave (no Surefire fore end).
I think it will be durable enough, but am disappointed in the crappy build. Need to heli-coil the adapter, or loctite the buffer tube. I have not shot this combo yet. The brace itself is mildly flexible. I wonder if it will bend under full power loads. The extremely compact size and geometry are great. Same size as a M4gery. Curious to see if the canted angle of brace/buffer will result in appreciable muzzle rise.
The Good: perfect geometry for sight picture, bead lines up just as it should, natural position, ultra compact
The Bad: lose quick access to safety - have to break grip, also (for me at least) reaching the action lock requires breaking grip too, and no provision for a sling
The Ugly: fairly poor build quality, set screw in soft plastic strips easily, female buffer tube threads poorly machined &/or soft - also strips easily, poor alignment between adapter and receiver

I have a shockwave and the paperwork with the gun says altering the stock makes the weapon a short barreled shotgun. As sold,it’s a firearm not a shotgun.

Yea same, it's stupid because black ace tactical sells a similar product with the brace on but it has to be put on by the manufacturer not us.
