Moving to long island in July

Hi everyone, as the title says, I will be moving to Long Island (Nassau County) in July. I'm originally from Long Island but have been living in Maryland for a bit. As disheartened as I am with NY gun laws in general, I'm excited to become a part of the gun community in New York.

I'll be, sadly, selling my handguns prior to moving to NY because I may only be on Long Island for a year and because it's such a hassle figuring out what to do with them while waiting for a LI pistol permit. Fortunately none have sentimental value and are easily replaced.

I'll be bringing my long guns (shotgun, mosin nagant and stripped lower) with me, and as I understand it, I do not need to ship these through an FFL and can bring them in myself since they are NY legal. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken with that. Obviously, my AR build plans have changed and will now be NY SAFE act absurdity compliant

I know, but unfortunately I have to for a year. I thought maryland was bad when I moved here, but I know I'll be missing the laws here once I move to NY, which is horrible to have to say

There's more to life then the Democrap Republics of Maryland and Andrew CumHoles Republic of New Yorkistan.
There is 48 more State to choose from, Why to one the most FUCKED UP STATES FOR GUN RIGHTS, unless you are one of them.

Yeah I know, and I explicitly went in to a field that would allow me to live anywhere in the country after having grow up on Long Island and experiencing the "fun" of NY taxes and laws and nonsense. But, sadly, my wife and I will be moving back for a bit for a multitude of reasons, including family. I'm hoping that I can move after a year since I am not hard up for a job and do have lots of opportunities elsewhere. It's mainly the family thing that's bringing us back

and to answer your last statement, I am not "one of them." I moved to maryland for medical training (my wife and I are both physicians) and work here while she is finishing training. prior to this, I did med school in Michigan and lived in CT for a bit. I'd love to move to PA or even florida, but for now, we are stuck coming back to NY

That might work well. How Do I find FFLs on here? I looked at the vendor forum, but the only one i see is rescue stuff and they are about an hour away from where I'll be moving

That's a bit alarming. What if you don't? These things have a way of lingering and NY will suck you in. You might not get out.

yeah, don't think I haven't thought about that already. I guess we'll see in a year, but depending on the next steps I take in my career, we may have no choice but to move out...which wouldn't be the worst thing

Thanks for the input, I will do all of that. I saw some discussion on the LI firearms about new owners, but wasn't sure what that is about. I can't believe an anti gun group bought that forum. there goes my plans to donate to that site. Thanks for the heads up

Family is important. I grew up in North Woodmere on LI and left in 91. We decided to come back to NY after living in GA, AL, and VA so my 2 young boys at the time could be closer to my wife's family as my family were already gone or no longer living. Wasn't into firearms at the time so that wasn't a concern. I told people we certainly didn't move back to save money. My MIL died unexpectedly at 69 5 years ago so in retrospect I'm glad she was part of my kids lives and watched them grow up to some extent. Ultimately, that wins out over all of the bad stuff going on in this beautiful state. Welcome and best of luck to you and yours.
