Recently it seems a headlined reporter keeps putting the blunder back in blunderbuss. I guess his things spreading backwards explanation also explains why this reporter has shit for brains.
P.S. For any reporters who frequent this fine forum to do some research, the blunderbuss did not flair out the projectiles being shot. The flare bell in the barrel was an "Easy-Loading Innovation" that simply to allowed for easier loading of buckshot or bullets. "Trying to drop a dozen or so .33-caliber lead pellets down a standard-diameter 12-bore barrel can be tedious and time-consuming. Dumping them all in at once, especially for military usage, was much more efficient."

I see. Then you can mount a funnel the other way over the flared barrel so shoot like one of those rifle thingys.
Kinda goofy explanation but thats how shotguns work with shot.
"A backwards funnel" is an easy way of explaining shotguns to non gun people when you only have 20 seconds, like on a tv news program.
Also, not having to aim very accurate with a shotgun is pretty accurate.
The problem I see with his bit is that now the sheep will take his explanation to the extreme and believe you can kill 10 people with one hasty, inaccurate blast.
At close range, shotguns are devastating, that is true.

it's not that simple...that "backwards funnel" as far as pattern, is depending on what shot and what distance. I pattern my trap gun at 20 yards with #8 and hope to have a decent pattern within a 36 inch circle. Been hit with birdshot at about 100 yards and it bounced off all parts of my skin. Had deer slugs go by me at about 100 yards and I'm glad they missed.
