New "Bolt Action" AR-15 Mod

This is a new AR15 bolt modification that converts a semi-auto AR15 into a bolt-action. The Kalikey is fastened to the bolt carrier after removing the gas key, converting it into a bolt-action rifle. It should be CA compliant - does anyone think it will pass muster in NY? Converting the rifle back to a semi-auto requires either another traditional BCG, or the reinstallation of the gas key and a normal charging handle. I know the NYSP won't weigh in on this - I'm looking at the court of popular opinion right now...

But if you're not gonna swap it out then what's the difference?

If you don't ever plan on swapping it then yes it makes no sense. One other benefit is the AR aftermarket support.

Hopefully one day the laws will change where you can swap it out.

This is good for transport to and from the range. At the range or at home, you can make it back to normal. Good for hunting too in places that ban semi auto. Also, if you ever use a standard AR for a home defense shooting, in 5 seconds, it turns into a bolt action.

Just make sure you switch the bolt to the one you just fired and rub some of the oil from the fired bolt carrier on the unfired one...

I'm not understanding how the gas coming through the tube is safely diverted. The key rides above the lip for the ejection port opening so there is no clear path for the gas to go. Even if there were it would be blasting out of the ejection port which makes this not so good for left handed shooters. I also can't shake the fear that this would somehow malfunction and since the charging handle is attached to the bolt, it would send the charging handle right into the shooter's face.

Yeah but this product is claiming there is no need to change the gas system. If you have an adjustable gas system and can just turn the gas off, you have a bolt action without this BCG with the charging handle screwed to it.

I can see that what is in place of the gas key on this product sort of ramps the gas out towards the ejection port, but again, the gas key sits above the ejection port opening. So you will have the gas squeezing out between the upper and the BCG. Tight squeeze.
