The round seems interesting and for the price of the rifle I might have to buy one.
Absolutely! I'm a .30cal fan all the way. In fact, right before this Sig bolt gun on my wish list is a FN PSR with the fluted barrel, chambered in guess what? ,,,,,, .308! Like you said, in different words, the ''new" Sig round has it's limits. But for the price I had to add it.First mistake is the caliber that is not a 7mm that is the best small bore ballistically talking.
Also the 308 with cnc solid bullets outperforms all the 6.5 at everything.
The 6.5.and 6mm are simply too small to be versatile and other than paper punching and a few other things that do not require momentum and/or more killing power.
The 7mm-08 is a very efficient cartridge, and 7mm bullets are very efficient ballistically. Good for you for mentioning it as a possible option. I applaud you sir. This is actually interesting. Despite its "tactical" appearance this rifle seems more well suited as a mountain rifle or a stalking gun, even a woods gun.
However which cartridge is more efficient from a 16" barrel? 6.5 Creedmoor or the .308 Winchester?
Ignoring the SIG cartridge for now, since new cartridges so rarely succed in achieving sustainable availability, what other short action cartridge would be optimal out of a carbine length barrel?
I am thinking the 7mm-08 would be a great option here. A 5.56 sized action would be a no brainier for this thing too, wouldn't it? The 6.5 Grendel is optimized for long range performance from short barrels is it not?
