Saw this new Hornady bullet on their website yesterday. Contacted them, asked if my Rem 700 with 1:9-1/8" twist would reliably stabilize. Nope, very borderline. Recommend a 1:8" minimum. Doh. I so need a fast twist barrel.

Dont listen to them. Try it.

I run 55gr out of a military pencil barrel 1:7 out to 375 m and wreck 2moa steel.

And “they” say it is jot possible.

Shoot it and let us know.

Ok. Suppose I could buy a box/100, load'em up, and give it a 'shot'. Funny that 1:9.125" twist is ok for 100 grainers, but 3 more grains would make that much difference.

People answering phones probably have a small book in front of them sort of like an FAQ. And just go by the chart. Try it yourself always.

Winchester uses an even slower twist (1:10) in their .243 Win chambered rifles, and they're designed to stabilize 100 gr. Was puzzled, and didn't want to waste the money on a box of quality bullets if I couldn't use them.

Just like i said above. EVERYONE knows cause they read the internet that 55gr do not stabilize in 1:7. Even so i only use 55 in 1:7. And guess what? I hit everything i am at....and when i do not it is NEVER the 55gr, 1:7 combo.....IT IS ALWAYS the loose connection between the gun and the ground.

Understood. It's my understanding that lighter weight bullets in a certain caliber only require a certain slower twist to properly stabilize, heavier bullets require a faster twist to stabilize. Generally accepted that it's ok to use lighter bullets in a faster twist barrel, but not vice versa, from an accuracy/proper stabilization standpoint. Some Long Range competitive shooters are using .243 Win with fast twist (1:8") barrels, and bullets greater than 100 grains (103, 105 etc.).

Nothing VLD above 95gr is going to work in anything less of 1:8.
Of course, this for the typical bullet construction since the stabilization factor is not based on the weight at all
but length, construction, design and speed. Some solids of the same weight might require even a tighter twist like 1:7.
They are a lot longer. They have to be due to the lower density.

After some thought, I'm just going to stick with the Hornady 100 gr. BTSP for now. .405 is still a very good BC for a deer hunting bullet this side of The (Mississippi) River. Checked Hornady ELD-X 6mm/.243 103 gr reviews online, people with fast twist (1:8 or 1:7.7) barrels are happy, those with traditional (1:10, 1:9.125) twist rates, not so much. Sure is going to limit the popularity of this bullet. Maybe someday when my barrel's shot out...I'll replace with fast twist.

The 100gr hornady will stabilize with a 1:9 twist. Same as the 87gr vmax, 95gr bonded and so on.
Also take a look at the speer 85gr and 100gr spbt. Very good bullets well priced.

Knew that, but thanks. Already use the Hornady .243 100 gr Interlock BTSP, and also Sierra GameKing 85 gr HPBT both great bullets.
