New Posts page (and how it works)

If I post a response should it go to the top of today's threads ?
I don't understand how it works.
Sometimes I have to search for a tread that I just responded to.

Mine never does either. Some people claim it does for them, never has for me. I'm pretty sure I may have even done a thread about this in the help section too. Got no help, just people saying they see theirs..

It doesn't for anyone. The new posts are for posts that YOU haven't read. If you posted something, you read it. It isn't new to you so it isn't going to be at the top of YOUR new post page.

It will be at the top of MY page since I haven't read YOUR post. When I respond to you, it disappears from MY page and appears on YOUR page. It'll stay away from my page until you post on it.

All of the new posts of each member are different.

What @Willjr75 say makes sense and must be true I gather. BUT..on my iPad in landscape (horizontal) on the right side is "new posts" and there it will show..because it's a new post

That's a different section that's totally separate from your actual new posts page. What you are talking about is from the main page. That's the same for everyone.

But at least I see my "new post" and that's what the question I cried about was..

These things are of course correct. Pretty sure NYGuns did explain this in a thread about it before, but I can see why it'd be asked about again and probably will be asked again in the future (and that's fine) because it's not the most intuitive feature .

That said, @TopShot - If you mean that you're doing a search by way of the search field to find threads you've posted in, there are far better alternatives to that.

First off, unless you've intentionally changed your alert preferences , the default state should alert you to any replies in those threads; along with a convenient link into that thread along with the alerts. Of course you might want to find your own posts without that anyone has since posted in that thread, or at some later time find it again. So, for that you can simply go to your own profile page and look at the postings or information tabs.

If you need more information on how to access your profile page (there are several routes, all very simple) or how to find your posts from there (but I think you'll figure it out by looking at those tabs I mentioned) feel free to ask and I'll explain further.

I understand all that.
Let me rephrase the question.
When I log on to my forum page I see the new posts on the right.
When I click on new posts on the menu going across the top I get a different set of posts.
Am I doing something wrong ?
Also what is new profile posts ?

You're not doing anything wrong and the answer is part of what I meant by it not being the most intuitive feature.

So, first thing is that very straightforwardly the list of new posts you see on the site's front page are literally the site's most recent posts at the time of loading the page. The 'New Posts' page however is a little different. I think the reason this is potentially confusing though is because that link does look very much like it might (maybe should ?) bring you to just a longer list of those most recent posts. I totally get it, but that's not how the feature works in the xenforo software.

What it does bring you to is a list that is completely specific to you, as an individual user; showing you what threads have something in them that you haven't yet seen. You'll notice there are no duplicates in that list of the same thread. That's because it's showing each thread by the first thing in it that you haven't seen. If you view a thread from that list and then leave the page and go back to the 'New Posts' page , you'll see the thread is no longer listed on the page. The thread won't show up on that page again until such time as there is a new post in the thread that you haven't yet seen.

This might seem weird at first, but it's actually very useful because you're not seeing a ton of duplicates showing the same thread over and over on a list of new posts for every single person that's posted in it.

As for 'New Profile Posts', that's the same thing except that it refers to the direct posts you can put directly on your own or someone else's profile. If you go to your own or someone else's profile, you'll see the first tab allows you to type something there. These are public posts intended as something like status updates and comments on them, or messages to other users that are intended to be viewed and commented on by other members. If you use facebook, you can think of it as a very similar thing to that.
