Hey everyone, popping in here to read up a LOT before purchasing something. Considering the political climate, I figure I am better off getting in sooner than later. I'm stuck living in this State, so might as well find a way to make the best of it.

Looking to start with a rifle, then hopefully a handgun after permit hell.

Site looks pretty active, glad to have found it!

Buy a stripped lower. You can get one for about a hundred bucks. I will not be surprised if AR-15 compatible lowers, or semi-autos or something like that are ultimately banned in NY. Odds are very good that they would grandfather in anything already owned.

Agreed. If you want to do it all in one shebang. Keep an eye on palmetto State armory. Recently they were selling lowers and a ksg bundled for 800.

I am currently in Nassau County but hopefully will be living in Dutchess County soon. Should be an upgrade in freedom!

Oh you poor bastard .on the bright side Nassau is still quicker than Suffolk. I got 18 months ahead of me apparently.

Hopefully I'll be out by Summer (house hunting). A few years back I had an application for a Dutchess permit, it was oppressively annoying and time-consuming. I abandoned my efforts.

That's their intent. I allowed the process to determine for 10 years, I regret letting them win for that long.

What really got my goat was the fact that they demanded multiple references within the County all prepared within 60 days of each other. Is their position that if I don't know anyone around I am unable to exercise my rights? I wish they were this thorough when it comes to voting!

As I just stated I was deterred for 10 years, then when I actually started the process it took me nearly 7. Reason being is that Westchester County used to require all your references to be in the county of Westchester. Well I grew up Upstate New York and I work down in the city so I didn't really know anybody in Westchester. It took me 6 years to get all my references together then when I finally went to turn in my paperwork they told me my application was expired and I had to start over again. I made an issue about the in County references and they told me that they would accept New York State references outside of the county because of my situation, then within the year I finally had my permit.

You will have to be a Dutchess resident for a minimum of 6 months before you can apply. You will need 4 references who are residents of Dutchess County who know you for at least six months.

Welcome I like the username, that should go over quite well here. Good luck with the pistol permit process. It is definitely a huge pain jumping through all the hoops but it is worth it. I agree with others on getting a stripped lower. I just purchased and assembled one myself and I’m probably going to pick up another. Anyways happy trolling their is some extremely knowledgeable members here so your definitely in the right place.
