WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Westchester County has reversed its position on hosting gun shows on county property.

Legislators applauded as new Executive George Latimer signed an order banning gun shows at the Westchester County Center.

“This is the wrong venue for a gun show,” Latimer said, adding that it’s better suited for family events such as the upcoming reptile expo, and toy and train show.

The shows are not illegal but Latimer said “we can make a statement about what we want to see here and I think it is a matter of your values and your principles.”

It’s not just the guns that bother him, it’s also the memorabilia, WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported.

“In some cases confederate products, Nazi products and things of that nature,” Latimer said.

Former County Executive Rob Astorino had vetoed a legislative ban on gun shows last year.

Latimer will go all sanctuary on you and defy the guberment. NYC and Westchester will never see national reciprocity in my lifetime. And I hope to have 35 yrs left!

"It's for the children!" The memorabilia, what an asshat. Those are World War Two collectibles. There is U.S. and many other nations and eras usually represented by those dealers. Let one blat ass see one swastika and suddenly the whole place is goose stepping neo nazis. People really should get over themselves. Fuck this clown ass guy and fuck his stupid county. I have less and less reason to even set foot in that citiot inhabited part of a once decent place to live.

Honestly, a lot of the people at the reptile expo are not great breeders. It's rare I'd buy a snake at the expo, because you can't trust a lot of these guys to be telling you the truth about any past health issues in the lineage, whether it's a hybrid bloodline with another species from the same family, etc.

It's also risky because you might wind up bringing back mites or diseases to your other snakes at home, if you don't properly quarantine the new snake.

Personally, I'd rather just be really picky about my snakes.

The problem is people don't dare to organize anymore and make coordinated decisions as to how to influence the political climate / other people. If we want to see change, we need to find a way to exert political pressure through organization.

I am very involved in a few different organizations that are designed to further the causes that I believe are important.

One issue with a site like this is that we do not have a group in numbers, we are located all over the State.

You know there is this thing called "the internet" that lets people organize regardless of geographic location? So we do have numbers. They're just not all in one place.

Never post anything overly specific, and never post the same content across different accounts. Especially on bigger sites.

That being said, there’s no reason we can’t still organize via the anonymity of the interwebs.
