NFL cancels Sunday Night Football this week
The NFL has canceled the final Sunday night football game of the season. Don't worry, no one was going to watch anyway.
Next Sunday's game had two disadvantages: The games all had a likelihood of being dull by the time Sunday night rolled around. And this coming Sunday is New Year's Eve, a day when historically few Americans watch television.


The last time the NFL held a Sunday night football game on New Year's Eve was in 2006, when the Chicago Bears hosted the Green Bay Packers. It was expected to be quarterback Brett Favre's last game with the Packers (and widely expected to be his last game ever). Still, only 13.4 million people watched that game, about a quarter fewer than the average Sunday Night Football game that season.

Since the last Sunday night football game also happens to be the final game of the season, the NFL tries to schedule a game that will definitely have playoff implications for one or both of the teams playing. (A team that already made the playoffs might sit their starters, leading to an exceptionally boring game.)

Haven't watched one single game this season. First time since I was 8 years old.
When I was just a little boy my Uncle took me to a Atlanta Falcons game and I was hooked for the next 45 years.
That ended when the "multi millionaires" started kneeling and whining about "oppression"..... FACEPALM

Didn't attend one single Buffalo Bills game this season. First time since 1998 IIRC.

The NFL is dead to me and I don't see that changing any time soon if ever.

I was losing more and more interest over the last number of years anyway. All of the me, me, me, look at me was getting old.

I watched a few games. It seems like these overpaid putzes spend more time concocting some elaborate schtick for IF they ever manage to get into the end zone (other than running to the locker room) than they do learning how to actually play football. Blatantly crossing themselves, then falling to their knees with their hands lifted to heaven, as if God really gave two shits whether they got a T.D. or not (doesn't he have more important things to do, like giving more kids cancer?). Spinning the football and sitting down acting like it is a campfire.
It's all disgusting, and they should all be penalized for showboating (didn't there used to be a rule against excessive displays after T.D.s?).

they should all get off their high horses, put the politics away, and play some damned football! Have some decorum, your dog & pony show looks more and more like a monkey on a leash, bouncing to the beat of the organ grinder (no, this is NOT a racists comparison!).

I think that it was the Houston Oilers wide receiver Billy "White Shoes" Johnson that kind of started the whole idea of the end zone celebration thing. But at the time it was pretty much just him doing it IIRC. It was his shtick, It was called the "funky chicken" .....
.... I just thought of "chickenshoot" LOL . To bad he isn't here on NYGF I liked his posts and fiery rants.

Anyways, It was the Cincinnati Bengals running back Icky Woods end zone celebration "The Icky Shuffle" that really started the whole stupid thing IMO. After Icky Woods started doing the shuffle it seemed like a contest with most of the other players as who could be the most stupid looking in the end zone. and it's just been getting worse and worse since then.
