"NY Legal AK" saiga stock

Ok so New York shop making "NYLAR" (New York legal AR) and "NYLAK" (New York legal AK) stocks for AR style and "AK" featureless stocks.

And mine for my Saiga just came in. And so here we have it. There are essentially 4 options for us for any Kalashnikov style rifles

1) stock unconverted Saiga/Vepr (I have my negatives for keeping them unconverted)

2) spur style grip, I tried this by chopping a grip, they are not great at all for anything other than sitting at a bench

3) thordsen stock for AR-15s with the "AK" adapter

4) the NYLAK stock (half the price of the thordsen)

I went with option 4

I went with OD Green for the lulz, it looks great and the last picture looks like scuff marks but that is just the flash.


Initial impressions.

Feels super well built looks nice.

Is it ideal, No, I deal would be actual stock and a U.S. Palm pistol grip, but I cant have ideal here in NY. Next best thing? I'm thinking it just might be. Hope to get out next week to see how it feels shooting, the cheek weld is my only concern, but I can always modify if needed,

The last option is definitely the most functional. I'm curious however as to what makes it more desirable than a standard Saiga stock.

I believe he has moved the trigger group forward to accept AK mags. A standard rifle grip would not allow you to reach the trigger where placed. Here;s a stock photo. Notice trigger group placement further back from magwell.

If that's the case, why not just leave it as it is? They make plenty of standard Saiga Sporter magazines. Even standard capacity ones. Once you buy enough of those, you don't have to gimp your rifle and play the ugly, not really 100 percent functional, compliance game in hopes of one day the law going away. It isn't going to go away.

The saiga stock isnt the issue. The essential "reverse" bulpup style trigger (bullpup triggers are inherently trash, reverse is just as bad) was the main concern, then even more of a concern magazines.

With a non converted saiga, being a good law abiding citizens I could not add a bullet guide and use US made magazines thanks to 922(r) and while 10 round mags are not a problem because FUAC, saiga mags are not the cheapest and I like options

So 2 main reasons, US made cheaper magazines, and a much much nicer trigger (and the option for an even better trigger, I'm hoping to add the AGL trigger one day)

Also having the trigger group moved back makes utilising the safety not as intuitive (well the AK design doesnt help, but the moved grip and trigger group of the Saiga helps even less) as having everything shifted forward

I guess different strokes for different folks. For me, magazine cost wouldn't be an issue. I'm only going to buy them once. Hell, I used to pay 50 bucks for each one back in the day for prebans.

The trigger for me would be livable if I didn't have to use a gimped stock and grip. It's a battle rifle and the stock trigger which is functional enough would suffice. It's not like it's widely known to be terrible, inadequate, and prone to malfunctions from what I've read.

Again. That's just me.

Red is about where your finger can reach

Green if you add the "enhanced safety" and extra popular with the ladies

Blue is stick safety, and well you should be working in porn

In a fantasy world you aren't going to be picking up AK magazines. You'll be tripping over AR magazines on the ground so you'll have to use your own. But even then if it were me, I'd want to use my own anyway because mine would be known to be 100 percent reliable. I wouldn't be able to say the same for those I pick up. But in reality, there aren't going to be any on the ground. So in the meantime while I'm waiting for this fantasy to happen that isn't going to happen, I'll have a stock that could be questionable to some Stormtroopers and really isn't the best looking.

That's how I see it for me but I understand if some see things differently.

I've grown tired of the compliance game and have chosen not to do it anymore. Every time I used to pick up my gimped AR, it drove me nuts. I don't have that feeling anymore when picking up a standard, traditional rifle.

Meh. I will stick with the factory , I find it to be a great design and function.
But opinions are relative. Enjoy.
I think the gulag's perception of grey area is immense with # 4.

We don't have a definition for pistol grip here in NY like in California. So it can be considered a pistol grip that protrudes with an attached fin.

Those don't look too bad. They've been around for a while now. Thing is, I don't know how they can get away with those basically being a 3/4 pistol grip. If these are legal, why hasn't anyone offered something like this for ak's and any other semi auto rifle for that matter for NYS/CA.

Some of those options with plastic things, implements and covers should not been sold because one has no control over the firearm and someone is going to get shot or shoot someone by accident.

In terms of magazines, in order to use aftermarket one needs to install a bullet guide and open it up and polish-it a little.
I used a softer metal that I heat trheated and then tempered w/o that edge in the aftermarket ones that can create malmunctions
and damage the meplat of the bullet.



I went with option 5 - Used a TC encore stock that I cut and adapted.
Very good stock, well proven. I like things that look and are actually solid vs. something
new and skeleton type. It is also a light stock but light well made, not cheaply made.

Couldn't you just attach the stock to the fin via a pipe strap or some kind of bracket? That would make it all part of the stock one piece.

What was the process for this and where did you find the stock, I can only see them for sale at upwards of $150
