NY to PA resident Long Gun Transfer

I've searched the forum and found stuff on pistol transfers but not long guns - so I wanted to see if anyone could clarify. I want to give my brother (PA resident and lives outside of Pittsburgh) one of my older 22 rifles that we had as kids but my father gave me.

Am I correct that I can bring the rifle with me, we both go to an FFL near him in PA and have him go through the NICS process to take "legal" ownership of the rifle?

Or

Do I have to ship it to an FFL in PA from NY?

I know that if he lived in NY, I could gift it to him without any FFL transfer but from my reading state to state requires the recipient to go through a NICS check (even if family).

Lol, I thought very much about that as I do have at least one or two "evil" rifles already stored in his safe....just wanted to do it the right way, never know when some fool might break in and steal a single shot 22 LR to commit a crime with.

To the OP. Yes. You can bring the gun yo an ffl and tranafer it to your brother. Or you can ahip it to the ffl. Whatever is easier. Many ffl will receieve from an individual so no need to go ffl to ffl. But that ia up to the ffl.

100% not true. You are violating federal law! Both directions you violate fed law if you dont do a bgc.

Thanks to all for your input - NY laws definitely have me more cautious probably than I should be. I just wasn't sure how the FFL transfer should be done, I'll just bring it with me and go to the LGS, if they wont do the transfer for whatever reason I will bring it back with me and ship it from my LGS.
