The point that is missed here is these people were arrested for committing a crime. NYPD was told they had committed a previous crime (illegal immigration) and decided to let them go. What kind of message is NYPD trying to send.

If they are sending a request, it means they know the person was already arrested and in custudy. So fuck “requests”, just send someone to court to get them. Problem solved.

The request is an immigration detainer stating the ICE has an interest in the alien whether for entering illegally, prior deport or part of an investigation. ICE requests that after they are done with whatever local charge they were arrested on , to be notified before being released. All these aliens have commited some crime other than immigration and the arresting agency deals with their criminal charge until time of release. The detainer is to hold for 48 hours to allow time for ICE to get there. There isn't that many deportation officers out there so coordinating with local police is important. The general public is uninformed and often doesn't realize that all of these requests to detain are the result of the alien being arrested for something other than immigration.

Ultimately who's decision is it to ignore the request, I doubt it's the precinct itself. Does it come down from the top brass at nypd or higher than that? Does it come from FUAC himself? Either way if one of those that were released already were to go out and commit a rape or murder that is on that person's hands.

That goes without saying... for all local police forces. Federal funding should not be used for local or state law enforcement. Doing so is essentially taxation without representation.

The same also applies to: Schools, local roads, state roads, and state parks.

Criminal law takes precedence. Once ICE takes custody they are working on removing them. The idea is to let them face the punishment for their crimes and then remove them after. Especially because they might be back in the country a few days after they get deported. Also depending on how they entered, ICE may need for the alien to get a criminal conviction before they take custody. If someone is legally in the US, without a conviction, there is no reason to deport them.

I obviously disagree with this policy but you are mixing bosses here. The Feds can’t fire local cops. Would be nice to see them charge the bosses though.
