I think I've said this before here. I have a friend I grew up with who is some kind of biologist. He worked to get the Yellowstone wolf re-intro done. After that his organization began trying to get wolves reintroduced into NYS. Over ten years ago he told me that "one day wolves would be back in NY regardless of the states stance. After all, they already call us eco terrorists" With a wink. Said the same about mountain lions.

The article writer has some ridiculously dumb proposals, namely significantly curtailing coyote hunting in the state and penalizing any hunter who can't tell a 50 pound wolf from a 45 pound coyote at 50 yards (which, in the majority of cases, is pretty much everyone).

Coyote season is currently open six months of the year, 24 hours a day... and yet we will have ridiculous numbers of coyotes across the state, decimating the populations of turkey, pheasant, rabbit, woodchuck, and god knows how many other species. The article's author is yet another uninformed liberal with no understanding of the subject he is writing about.

Thats about the size of the bobcat I saw, mentioned in that other thread, not as "bulky", it was more sinewy looking but just as long. I'm really starting to think something like the lion in that pic has been bangin some bobcat snootch making some huge hybrids.

I’d be surprised if they stayed it’s a mountain lion in NYS as they always deny it. Last time they said one walked 1,800 miles on search of a mate and all others are fake pictures.

There was a confirmed cougar a few years back in the lake Champlain and Lake George area dna from scat showed it to be from the Dakotas. The same cat was killed by a car on the Merrit Parkway in CT some time later. That’s a long freaking walk and just proves it’s very plausible for there to be more

I don’t believe a cat walked that far under any circumstances. It makes zero logical sense that it would do that. For what reason would it walk that far? They said in search of a mate if I remember correctly? Well if there are no native mountain lions here why would it do that?
I personally think it was a lie to cover up that they trapped and released them here in NYS as many speculate. I have spoken to many people who have claimed to have seen a mountain lion. If it’s not true this is the most old lie I have ever been told and that makes no sense to me either.

The wolf range is much much closer especially if they can cross a bridge in the middle of the night from Canada.They are literally right across the St Lawrence or just on the other side of the Great Lakes.
Why I find it hard to believe that this cat walked 1800 miles in the wrong direction looking for a mate as they claim is I would image they have a good sense of smell and hearing. Cats like this mate by calling and scent marking. Why would this cat walk so far after not smelling or hearing another cat?
I feel the same for the wolf since they are social. The wolf could have been someone’s pet or escaped from a nature sanctuary or something like that. There have been a few other sightings of wolves recently but I’ll say it’s less than I hear about mountain lions.
This group surmises the wolf came over from Canada and I don’t think that’s horribly unreasonable.

IIRC, they approach it from the opposite direction. As in, "everything is protected except X, Y, and Z". Also IIRC, I believe X/Y/Z are woodchucks, red squirrels, and porcupines.

I found this page that mentions both. It's not 100% clear, but it does seem to suggest that killing a mouse that is neither a nuisance nor damaging property might indeed be in violation of the law. So, I guess, if you were in a field and saw a mouse, it might be illegal to shoot it. /shrug.
