To aid in search for fugitive Joshua Stuart, DEC is temporarily closing the Vernooy Kill State Forest to visitors, effective immediately.

DEC Forest Rangers are assisting the State Police in the ongoing search for Joshua Stuart in the Ellenville, NY, area. DEC urges hikers and other outdoor recreationists not to utilize trails in the area. Stuart is considered armed and dangerous.

More information will be provided as it is available.

If the public sees someone matching Stuart’s description, they are asked to contact the State Police Middletown at 845-344-5300.

The suspect is in his early 40s and was wearing a flannel shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers.

Members of the Department of Environmental Protection Police found Stuart's truck abandoned near Lundy Lane and Cutler Road in the Hamlet of Napanoch, and found a man matching Stuart's description nearby. When officers tried to approach him, however, he fired four to five shots from a semi-automatic pistol and then fled into the woods. The search is still ongoing.

The reason why they shut down Vernooy is that Joshua shot at a police officer on Lundy Road and Vernooy is now a crime scene. this has nothing to do with political and Peta. Why would Peta get involved?

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is re-opening the Vernooy Kill State Forest, located in Ulster County, to visitors, including hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts, effective immediately.

The State Forest was temporarily closed on Sept. 28 and 30, to support the New York State Police's ongoing search for Joshua Stuart.
