1) He contacted the State Police in the 10 or so states he was going to drive through, learned the law, and said fuck it and drove with the weapons anyway.
2) He didn't bother and just figured whatever the gun laws are in one state must be the same as the other 49 states.
I am a proponent of weak federal and strong states; just like Jefferson and Hamilton were. OTOH, just like a drivers license works in all states so too should a CCW. So I have mixed feelings on reciprocity.

Which law is unconstitutional? Not being allowed to own a pistol without a CCW? I believe the NY State Constitution allows for laws more restrictive than federal law; and assume that these restrictive laws have gone to the state or federal Supreme Court.

This man had no way to legally bear a pistol in NY, a right that SCOTUS recognizes as protected by the constitution.
You can't make the argument that he should have jumped through the hoops that the rest of us do, he was not allowed to even attempt it.

Yeah it totally sucks, but it's his own fault. If you are traveling with a firearm, KNOW THE LAWS OF THE LAND in which you are traveling! Even if you don't agree with them, still need to follow them. I would never carry in NJ, because I'm not allowed to, don't want to get arrested and don't want to lose my right to carry / possess a firearm.

Also keep in mind if you buy ammo in Pennsylvania and coming back to New York through New Jersey. Make sure you do not have any hollow points with you. Just as bad as having an unlicensed firearm.

That's not true. They only cannot be carried in firearms. Hollow points are not illegal in NJ. They can be used on ranges and according to my cousin, loaded in firearms in one's home.

You do realize that many states now have constitutional carry. This is a clear and fundamental interpretation of the intent of the Second Amendment. It clearly demonstrates that any permitting laws that are on the books are an infringement on the Second Amendment and therefore unconstitutional by default.
The Sullivan Act of 1911 is when New York got its permitting laws on the books. This law was passed with a clear intent , through Tammany Hall, to restrict the Italians from having guns. So this law was started with a disengenuine intent, and should not have been allowed to stand for over 100 years.

Just as airborne guy noted above hollow points are not illegal in New jersey.
They become illegal if you are in possession of hollowpoint ammunition while you are committing another crime. Then they add the hollow points to the charges. ie: if you're robbing a liquor store with no gun, but you have a pocket full of hollow points they will charge you with the hollow points because you were had them in your pocket while you were committing another crime, robbery.

I'm not a Juris Doctor and am not academically credentialed in Constitutional Law. I support a government where legislators make laws and judicial branch judges determine if the laws are legal and constitutional. Unless someone is a constitutional lawyer I would think they support the process of checks and balances.
If some fucking window licker loads two sidearms, puts them in a vehicle, and drives across a dozen states without checking the laws of that dozen states, he's doing it wrong and was dressed like he wanted it. Maybe he likes that Rikers Island black dick?
