Like the law or not, this decision is going to be appealed and I bet it has a good chance of going to the Supreme Court. 5th Circuit is next, though.
The Supreme Court has already ruled and it will probably punt once they see this.

While I feel like health care should be a not for profit industry (well subsidized, but not for profit) and that everyone should have access to a basic level of coverage, but nothing should be forced on people be it a monetary obligation or the forced purchase of anything. I don't think that government control is the answer. Sure, make regulations that protect people, preexisting conditions and make coverage more accessible, but also let the market work itself out.

I don't get it. Didn't SCOTUS already rule that Obamacare was constitutional because they interpreted it a tax (and government is permitted to tax as one of its powers)?

Yes. This new judge says the removal of the individual mandate means the law is now unconstitutional because it's no longer based on the tax authority of Congress.

That is a big problem, Germany ushered in universal basic health care in the 1870s, never stopped their innovations, and they have a better life expectancy than us.
You can still buy extra insurance in Germany on top of your basic care, and they have a separate agency that researches and gives suggestions on cheaper more effective natural remedies when applicable, because when tax payers pay for health care there is an incentive to offer effective and efficient care.
We could do better but the medical industrial complex combined with people who do not want to strive for better health (e.g., limiting sugar, refined carbs, smoking, and being a coach potato, etc...) we are screwed.

What can Congress really do anyway? This will undoubtedly be challenged and find itself in front of the Supreme Court once more, but if it is ultimately struck down, there is nothing Congress can do other than start over.

no real answer to this dilemma Germany does better than we do is true but i think that there population is way less than ours and they as most European people are more health aware than we are. I have the German E commission book on natural healing they embrace herbs and spices and alternative medicine while we do not. they and a lot of Europeans take there health seriously while we do not. so we have to pay for being foolish

Excellent point regarding personal responsibility in the aspect of health. Germany's population is smaller, they are over 82 million, we are over 320 million but Germany's GDP is about $3.7 trillion and the USA GDP is about $20 trillion, so even at 1/4 our population Germany's GDP is still less than 1/4 of ours,,,,,,thus we could/should be able to do better.
On January 4th, all Democrats have to do is pass a single payer bill (which we all know they do not actually support) that House resolution will be DOA in the Senate and the Dems will use that to further bludgeon Republicans with in 2020, remember 70% of American support single payer according to polling-(until they have to pay for it), nonetheless being rational on this issue sadly will not win us votes.

It is a weird ruling: the law is consitutional if people are required to buy insurance, but unconstitutional if they aren't.
