Well, his profession means it was a lot easier for him to be armed going into the situation than an average person in NYC.
If he chose not to instead of simply not being presented with an opportunity for that to make a difference (article is unclear, major shock there), then you can fault his judgment in a way you might not be able to an average city dweller.
Other than that, yea, why even mention it.
