Oldest someone bought a lifetime license?

Who here has a lifetime NY hunting license? Did anyone buy it "later" in life?

I turn 39 in 2 months. I know I am not old and have many years of hunting ahead of me, but I'm on the fence whether it is worth it at this point, especially since DMP's are no longer included. But on the orher hand, it should still pay off in 10 years give or take.

I do plan to move from NY, but that won't be for about 15 years and I will stay in this region. Plus, I will likely still hunt here anyway and that's one of the pros of the lifetime.

FYI, it would be hunting/fishing and bowhunting which total $1000.

I bought mine when I was around 30 and the dmp was included. I used to hunt more back then, kids put a end to me going out everyday. I'll be 40 in 3 months. It was worth it for me. I just got my license in the mail last week.

I don't fish much anymore but I hunt a LOT from bow season until the end. I have missed only a few seasons since I was 8 years old, even when I was in the Army (only missed 1 during my enlistment).

I have girls, and so far they are completely uninterested, so I won't bother. If they get into it at some point, I will buy them that first year.

Bought mine about 6 years ago, so about age 32. At the time, I figured about 14 years before I broke even (Sportsman with bow and turkey stamps). Couple months after that I got rated by the VA and shot that to hell. I'll be long dead before I get back my money back.

I think it's $5 for hunting plus two others and bow is free. Still gotta pay for DMPs but you get preference. Rating has to be 40% or more - I didn't expect to be rated that high.

I'm actually not sure the math justifies the purchase at any point. If you took the cost of it and put it in the stock market (in theory) at the historical, say 8% return, it would take many years (if ever?) to pay back. And that assumes you keep hunting forever and never leave the state.

If you leave the state, that's the biggest benefit. You can still use it without paying non-resident fees. My uncle got his then moved to NJ years ago. He owns the land we hunt on. He'd have to pay over $200 every year to hunt his own land without it.

Even when I move, I'll be tied to here. More than likely my cousin and I will be buying that land since my uncle's daughters don't want it.

In your situation, I'd spring for it. Fees will go up, out of state permits will go up, yet you will receive your license, unsolicited every year, all paid for. My son bought his after his discharge and with fee increases over the years it has already more than paid for itself. I'm in the MarisFrank camp, so efem.

I bowhunt in NJ too, so at least now every year I only have to buy one set of licenses.

My license came yesterday. It only came with one bow tag. Doesn't the normal bow license come with antlerless and any sex? My lifetime only came with any sex. That's a little annoying.

No, not a lifetime, never got one of those, I picked it up Tuesday. I have always enjoyed my yearly pilgrimage to the town clerks office. It gives me a good chance to rage against the democrap machine to sympathetic ears, Hah!

I got a bow/muzz either sex and a bow/muzz antlerless. Also got bear, reg deer and 3 or 4 turkey tags. Lifetime purchased in '11.

I got lifetime in my early 20's. It will pay itself off after 20 seasons....not to mention never having to deal with machines being down or printers not working or having to go pick it up ever again.
