Today I attended this class with Ben from @OnSight Firearms Training, and it was informative and fun. As you would expect, it started off with a good safety brief which was really important considering this class involved a lot of shooting with movement.
We ran good drills starting with simple stuff and moving up to the more technical stuff as the day went on to make sure everybody was getting comfortable and were conducting ourselves safely. Ben did a great job to keep everybody safe as well as injecting a bunch of good humor throughout the day to keep the atmosphere light.
It's been a couple of years since I attended any formal training and it has been quite some time since I've done any handgun shooting so my accuracy was pretty poor to start the day (shooting accurately is a perishable skill). Ben had some really good pointers about grip and when I could deprogram myself from the 1000s of reps Ive done and implement what he said I could see immediate changes in my performance. The key is to now get enough reps in with what I've learned to make it natural, which I will do.
Today's class showed me that I have a lot of work to do to get my handgun skills up to a higher level. In the real world, where God forbid you need to use a gun to protect youself, there are so many more apsects of shooting we all need to work on to ensure we get accurate rounds into a bad guy, only the bad guy, and faster than he can get them in us.
I highly recommend for anyone that carries a handgun for self defense to take this class with Ben at www.oftllc.us . I officially give this class 2 thumbs up!
Thanks Ben, I am looking forward to taking more classes with OFT!
