Open Carry in NYS ?

There is no law specifically outlawing open carry, however in order to own a handgun in the state of New York you must have a permit, and that permit is issued for concealed carry only so by default you are only allowed to carry concealed.
Rifles are a different story, as there is no law outlawing open carry of rifles but I know that's not what you were asking anyway.

Open carry of handguns is only permitted if you have a scope on them. You shouldn't have a problem since you put 3x9 scopes on everything.

I see a lot of open carry of hog legs on opening day of deer season at the local greasy spoon, troopers and deputies in there too, nothing's ever said.

Local villages and town often have laws against open carry. I know there in town I live in, you can’t have a loaded firearm without a permit. This includes rifles and shotguns.
The lack of permit for open carry is a bit of a barrier.
Growing up in VT. I find NYS sensibilities toward open carry to be a bit baffling. I can understand if guns frighten folks. I don’t see how hiding them makes them less frightening. It seems rather juvenile. If the county trusts you to CC, you ought to have the option to open carry.
I used to carry when I was in my 20s. I haven’t really felt the personal need to do so since getting older. As I work in the city, it would be a pain. Yet, I appreciate having good people around who do.

Having visited 45 of the 50 states (not O'Basturd's 57), it is my observation that people who grew up around firearms and saw them openly carried have very few if any issues seeing handguns or long guns openly carried anywhere.
Now, the sheeple of the anti states? They quake with fear at the mere mention of a firearm... It is truly amazing to see!

It’s really urban/rural dynamic. The frontier in the lower 48 states closed only about 100 years ago. But, places here in the east have been settled longer. Look at Europe, that place has been civilized for a thousand years.

Always thought it somewhat ironic that many states require hoop jumping for a CC permit and NY you must CC. Personally, I never had the need nor desire to open carry, not that I think there should be a law against it, but there are bigger fish to fry.
You probably couldn't even get away with sporting this rig today, though virtually every kid in town had this or a variation of it and patrolled the neighborhoods unimpeded by the lawmen they were emulating.

I get nervous just walking from my house to the truck putting my cased riffles in for hunting or shooting. I donit as fast and discretely as possible. The last a crossed the street is wacky and would likely call the cops on me. She hates me and she’s always watching.

Funny how somebody who asks a simple question is a troll. I recall last year a guy from Geneseo saying he was gonna strap on his hogleg, walk thru the streets of town and no one would do anything because it is legal. Seems he has vanished. Was just curious about his fate. Probably are not 1 in 100 on this site who actually know the genesis of the Sullivan law was.
Sorry if some chose to point out just how enslaved and helpless you folks are to exercise basic rights. I see Sessions is taking Kali to court. Perhaps NY will be next ? Can you imagine what would happen in NY if the Federal funds were cut off ? Is there any place in NY that you are more than a tank of gas away from a "blue" city ?

I have a pair of scumbag neighbors (the ones that called the cops on my "repeal the safe act" yard sign that stirred up alot of drama back in 2013). I wouldnt put it passed them to call an anonymous tip line just to cause trouble, but i dont give it much thought. I still use my airsoft guns to practice drills in my yard.

On the contrary, I think most here know how corrupt Sullivan was (and Tamany hall in general) to enact his law so that he could stop the Italians from having guns while leaving his Irish cronies the only ones legally allowed to carry.
And it's one thing if you want to come here and help contribute, but if you're coming here to rub people's noses in the suffering that we have to endure it certainly doesn't help, and no one is going to thank you for it

If you want to see what's happening in Kali, turn on the news.
A basic theory of surviving the coming economic meltdown, when there is no food, water, electric, rule of law etc. (See the movie THE ROAD to see) is that anyone who lives within one tank of gas from a city is in great danger. With no electric, the ability of the mob to refuel will be limited and, hopefully, they will start killing each other. The folks outside that radius will have a chance to kill the few who will persist in trying to take what you have. Of course killing them will require the defenders to be well organized and armed.
