After closer inspection, it looks to me to be a bit short for an "other". It would need an oal of 26". Kind of looks like a 10.5" barrel which would make it a pistol, and possibly illegal for him unless he had a permit. Law enforcement has mentioned he bought this legally, but did not mention if he had a ccw permit. Is it legal to buy a pistol for home in Ohio without permit?




Either way I wouldn't be surprised if pistol braces become the next banned accessory like bumpstocks in the near future.

From the picture it wasn't an other. What he did was make an illegal SBR from a stripped lower. When you purchase a stripped lower it is transferred to you as an "other".

I spoke on this months ago. This "it's not an SBR because it has a brace" is not going to fly forever. It won't change a thing practically speaking in terms of who has the ability to do what, but the government will surely ban it nonetheless. This can be put through easily like the bump stock ban.

The fact that the ATF doesn't even know what the law means should be a slam dunk to get the whole thing thrown out for unconstitutional vagueness in any honest court. Too bad we don't seem to have many of them left.

The atf does for sure know the definition of a machine gun, yet still banned the bump stock. There's going to be a lot of pissed off people if they flip flop on the brace again.

I wouldn't call them uncomfortable, just not all that much more useful than a bare buffer tube.

Actually using them as a brace is just cumbersome, and trying to shoulder them doesn't really get you anything compared to just getting a decent check weld on the bare buffer tube.

My main concern with these shenanigans is that they will go so far as to declare bare buffer tubes "stocks" and essentially turn all AR pistols into SBRs.

Right now they have no definition at all of what's a stock and what's a brace, aside from what does the manufacturer call it.

That would have changed the whole gun control landscape for the last 100 years, but he took the easy way out and just disappeared, and we are all suffering for it.

Ummm adjustable arm braces have been out for a while now.

And yes they have been defined, it has to do with length of pull

They dont suck at all. Theh are actually really decent.

And the only flip flopping the ATF did was on if you can shoulder the brace or not.. and they ruled that you can
