Over under shotguns- Browning Cynergy

Ive wanted one for years, and not ready to buy one yet, just doing some research. Who actively shoots with one?

Im liking the Browning Cynergy line, but the Winchester M101 looks to be decent too. When the time comes I wouldnt want to spend more than $1500 on one. Any thoughts?

What purpose? Trap, sporting clays hunting? O/U's are a whole other rabbit hole on to themselves.

Typically it would be from a clay thrower on private property upstate, but if I went over to Blue Mountain it would probably be mostly trap shooting. And who knows maybe I would even try it for hunting birds at some point, but it's true intention would be for sport shooting only.

My biggest thing is reliability. Not that I have the time to shoot thousands of rounds a year out of any one particular gun, but I like guns that have rock-solid reliability.

Have a cynergy in 12 and 20. Have at least 10000 rounds through each of them with zero malfunctions. Will never part with them.

I have a Browning 325 that's easily 25 years old now, and a Browning Feather XS that must be 20 years old. Both of them are designed for Sporting Clays, but I have used them for both Skeet and Trap. I have in the past owned a Winchester 101 designed for Trap. I also own a selection of other O/U types for Skeet and Field use, but they all happen to be brands not mentioned by you, so I will leave them out of this. None of the shotguns mentioned above have ever given me any problems with the exception of needing to replace the firing pins in the 325. That little job took me about 30 minutes, and as far as I'm concerned, it was probably my fault they got damaged as i had been using primers that had an extremely hard face.

There is a HUGE difference in the way shotguns are designed for Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Field models. My best advice, for whatever that's worth, is this: If you are only going to buy ONE gun, it is best to buy the one that covers as many of the intended uses as possible. Since Sporting Clays is as close to hunting scenarios as you can get without taking home a pouch full of fur and feathers for dinner, that would be my choice. Next best option would be a Field gun. Both Skeet and Trap guns are really only suited for Skeet and Trap, respectively, and are of little use otherwise. You can easily get accustomed to using a Field gun for Trap, but a Trap gun for hunting bunnies ? Not so much.

As far as the newer models go, my experience is all with older guns. That being said, I would not hesitate to buy a shotgun from either Browning or Winchester. I believe them to be well made high quality guns.

Great info, and Im not opposed to other brands. Id consider a franchi, herreta, or other good brand. I just really like the look of the brownings (cynergy specifically, but even the citori), and i like the look of the winchester too.

It may be one of those shotgun triggers that you pull and hold back then release to fire.. its actually somewhat common in trap or skeet

That’s it. My FIL gave me his Remington 1100 years ago set up for skeet. Had the release trigger installed. I kept it but installed an original style trigger.

yep .. it does not fire on the pull of the trigger .. it fires on the release of the trigger .. and if you have it pulled .. there is way to release it and not fire ..

i have a so called Ithaca SKB o/u .. both skeet barrels .. got it for just under 700 .. got one 25/25 on skeet after 2 yrs of shooting .. like shooting the moss 500 pump better .. 24/25 my best so far with skeet ..

Thanks, i actually like the composite model the best in the current lineup. Im not ready yet though (other financial responsibilities). My pops has an o/u that he doesnt use but i dont recall if its a berreta or a browning.. i may just ask to borrow that for now until im ready to buy.

thats why you get 12ga and buy barrel inserts for the smaller gauges ..

thinking I'd do a Beretta over the browning just my opinion but it seems more really good trap shooters are using Beretta
