Picked up the Henry Big Boy Carbine today

& glad I finally did. This thing is a real work of art so much even the wife commented on how classy it looks. Fit and finish is very nice with only slight flaws/marks on the lever loop. I'll contact Henry about it as I heard only good things about their customer service. Looks like the receiver sock doesn't cover the loop for protection or its just QC oversight.

1 piece of advice is you take a risk with grab a gun...price was low as hell (gun, shipping etc.. ) but the manufacturer's box was put loosely in a larger box without any prevention of movement. The barrel and gun was partially exposed in the outer box but no damage was noted My ffl showed me how it arrived and was half out of the manufacturer's box.

Also, got a brass stacker no drill sling and bandolier in its way.

That's a beautiful gun. I own mostly AR's but use to own a Marlin 30-30 lever action. Don't know what happened to it since my accident. Blamed my mother for losing it when she took my guns out of my house while I was in the hospital. Now that my head is pretty close to being back to normal,,,,I'm pretty sure I sold it years ago. Remember blasting 4 woodchucks with that thing all in about 10 seconds. The whole family was running for their hole....

Is the barrel round or octagon?

I bought 3 from them. Came in manufacturers boxes tight and proper. No issues, better price by a couple bucks then Buds online and had what I wanted in stock when Buds didn't. I'd give highest marks to them.

Also, brass work hardens, so does it become somewhat brittle over a longer period of time. I'm sure they use the finest ordinance brass, but even still. Anyone heard of any issues with this?

Its a hardened metal/brass application then coated from what I understand. From late 2011 on they have pre drilled/tapped receivers...before that barrel mounted. So my guess that was the previous years problems.

You can buy an engraved brass plated piece that replaces the one on the receiver. It is pricey.

love my Henry's (41 Mag and 357 Mag) they are fun to shoot and don't mind sitting in the corner loaded for "just in case."

Contacted Henry and they are sending me out a new lever loop as well as the inner magazine tube (finish wasn't consistent)....awesome response from them.
Also informed grab a gun about the packaging issue and they assure me they will address it with the shipping dept and higher ups. From now on, I will contact them personally to ensure packaging is done right. They are cool with that.

Overall, great response from both companies.

Sounds like a good company. In this day and age that is a nice surprise. I have a new in box Goldenboy in .22 Mag that I want to shoot this year. It has a scope on it but the iron sight seems to have gone missing. I need to order a replacement. Beautiful gun you got though! Love to get one to sit next to the Goldenboy.
