I can get spyderco paramilitaries discounted at work.

I can get a pm2 in s30v and black with camo handle.


A pm2 in s110v and blue.

A pm3 in s30v


Anybody have any thoughts?


It sounds like s110 is a bear to sharpen. I also usually prefer naked blades so I'm leaning pm3...

While I prefer Benchmades these days, I miss my PM2 Blackout. Carried small for it's size, super smooth action, RAZOR sharp! More so than any Benchmade I own!

s110v is awesome, it takes more time to sharpen but that's because i am not good at it.
in G10 i say PM2
the MP3 is great in the FRN Lightweight version.
(my NYC knife is a UKPK in S110v and its Good!)

I carry my 940-1 more than my pm2 these days but wow Benchmade sucks at sharpening. For the price they should do much better than the dull burred edge i had. I have a kme with diamond stones so I just went ahead and fixed it. Minus that its a nice blade.

The pm2 and 3 lw I have came extremely sharp. Plus the hole is better them a thumb stud imo.

S30V is plenty sufficient, S110V can be tricky to heat treat though I think Spyderco does a good job with it. Frankly in the Sxx(x)V series I like S35V best.
Anyways the choice between a PM2 or PM3 is simply down to if you want a 3.5" or 3" blade. For general purpose EDC I actually tend more to the 3" size. The PM2 is a fairly large knife but if you are doing a lot of cutting that day the PM2 would get the nod I suppose. I have a PM2 and also a Sage 5 which is a 3" blade.

EDC'ed my PM2 for a while and confess as hard as I try, I just can't warm up to the compression lock. This after years of carrying an Axis locked Benchmade 943 that I literally wore out (BM replaced the blade 3 times over the years)..Love my Spyderco's and actually keep going back to the old Saber-ground plain-edge Endura I have. Back-lock unlocks %100 with gloves on and knife is narrower & thinner than either the PM 2 or 3. Its AUS8 steel and I can get it from dull to "razor blade" in about 1 minute without much effort. Did the "wave-zip tie" mod and its stock just went way up. (Google it). All personal preference of course, and I know it doesnt really answer your question, but if you've never handled an Endura, check one out. Also they're like half the price of the PM series, (picked up a clean used one for $40 on Ebay).

I'm considering an endura and a pm3.


I do already have 2 full sized griptilian's, mini, and a Freek. I've liked my foray into the more premium market. I'm just looking to expand my horizons.

Understood. Yeah, knife collecting is addictive. Just FYI the newer Endura's (Endura 4) is a beefier version of the older Endura (1st Gen). The latest version Endura 4 has a full flat grind blade and stainless liners in the handle. 1st Gen's dont. I have both and the newer version is a more substantial knife, albeit heavier. I just prefer the older, lighter version w/saber ground blade. Good luck on your quest, and let us know what you get.. Can't go wrong with either.

Huh? You just blew my mind with that. Unless you are a lefty, are you? The compression lock is indeed setup for right handed operation.
Otherwise the compression lock has many, many advantages and is by far my favorite lock. The axis lock is nice but omega springs can and will break and that requires a return trip to Benchmade to fix. Also, fuck Benchmade anyway. I don't even know what to do with the 2 I have now. I have a 940 Osbourne and a custom Mini Grip (which has a broken omega spring) and I don't even want to carry them anymore.
But as to the compression lock I find it simple, strong and convenient to use. I especially like how it keeps my finger out of the blade path when closing. I wish every folding knife used the compression lock.

i got a new Endura on amazon in ZDP 189 for $88, a smoking deal!
it does take a long time to sharpen this steel, but the edge lasts long time.

All black pm2, love it. Super sharp and although seems big does carry in pocket good.

Some competitive options...


The para 3 has a better handle than the mini grip if you wear large sized gloves...

The mini grip is probably a bit smoother.


The para 3 is more robust, almost as smooth.


The endure is a hell of a lot of knife for its profile and weight. Great for that bad part of town...


The freek is...a freak. I generally always reach for my full sized griptilian instead.


Time will tell with the new spydercos, but I may find the para 3 more of a charmer than the mini grip, but none may unseat my ultra smooth full sized grip.

Vapor, congrats on your new additions. The Para 3's get great reviews. .must say that orange Grip is very cool. You're making me want one now. here's a few I'm trying currently. From the left is a way-too-big Benchmade Ascent, from the late 1990's, (you can field dress a Blue Whale with this knife.) my zip-tie wave Endura, Spyderco Manix 2 with their version of the Axis lock along with a Spydie hole. Win/win? And a blue Zero Tolerance 0450 . Just started carrying the Manix 2. What a beast of a knife. Ergonomics are %200. This knife feels like it was custom made for my right hand. (See Nick Shabazz's review on YouTube) Might try a zip tie on it. ZT0450 is a beauty, but carrying that knife is like bringing the Prom Queen to a mud fight. Just too nice for a bum like me...I keep coming back the old waved, Gen 1 Endura that I can beat the balls off and put my head down at night. I'm sure my tastes will change in 6 months anyway, but ..personal preferrance. This sure is an addictive hobby. Again, nice grabs on those Spyderco's.

I like the looks of the Manix. Its been on my list for awhile. Maybe after the new year!


It's crazy how much that old bench made looks like a spyderco. Reminds me of my other griptilian 20190101_215351.jpg

Yeah...keep going back to the old Endura myself..Gonna try an Emerson waved Endura next, as the wave really works, and the zip-tie is a little cheesy looking...,.I never owned a Bugout, but I'm gravitating towards thinner knives these days, so maybe I'll grab one...Nice 390 PM3, Phaux...
