Just coming from the "What did you get today" thread I had these thoughts. Those who have the room ..... what's in your back yard? Pics? Hickory45 comes to mind.

Looking for pics and ideas for when I get enough acreage to set up my own. Whatever state that may be in.

@Jaywmustang are those racks for your own use? On your property?

I have a farm I shoot at, about 300 yards, my parents property which is more pistol range and I belong to a gun club. The gun club has a pistol range but it’s 25 yards. We can’t shoot past the shooting line but we are allowed to put targets closer.

Those thingys I picked up at toys r us are light weight and easy to set up. I just need to replace the nuts with some wing nuts then it will be easy. I plan on using them at all three places. The farm has power pole bullet stops every 100 yards but we plan on shooting different angles this year to get more distance (about 550 yards) so these will come in handy to set the targets up where ever we want.

What is nice about those thingys, u can adjust them to whatever you want. Want it wider, buy longer pipes. I think I can get three paper targets side by side. I could narrow it by getting shorter pipe. I am going to check out some conduit then next time I go to Lowe’s.

Also looking for backstop ideas other than shooting into a hill. I often see people tearing down old decks and find the 5/8'' decking an available material. I'm thinking about building two parallel walls 2-3' apart and using the decking as the walls on some posts. The interior can be packed with wood chips and brush. Stuff available on site.

The farmer used to work for nationgrid so he has a lot of old power poles laying around. He just dug a trench and put 4-5 power pole next to each other and filled it in. The poles stick out of the ground about 5 feet. They stop everything except for the 50 bmg. I’ll get pics the next time I am down there.

About 15 years ago I lived on a farm with a bit of acreage. What a treat to walk out back and blast away. No driving or nothing like that required. Just a 5min walk. It's on my list of requirements of buying a piece of property.

All three of my shooting places are within a 4 min drive. It is really nice when you don’t have to go far to shoot. I normally hit the gun club because I don’t have to deal with cows.

We used to shoot over a few goats in the woods. They were in the ravine we shot across. Ahh .... fun times.

We used to play paintball there too......cows are not mobile bunkers lol. One of our player was chased by the bull, the bull was playing. Never seen someone run sooooo fast

The other field had some cows and a bull. Our friend used to go there to dump grass clippings from his mowing business. He got chased around the truck once .... guess the bull didn't want anyone near his girls. Our friend got smart and started dropping the tailgate on his dump before he went in the field. Dump and run.

I have to drive to shoot, I have several places to go up in the mountains, the closest being about 15 miles each way, but it sucks there, not really a good backstop and you can only get about 20 yards MAX

The other places are between 30 miles up too 50 miles each way depending on the distance I want to shoot.
I take a plastic fold up table, two metal fold up chairs, a target stand I made out of 1x4 cedar fence boards that folds up flat. I will post a picture of the target stand this weekend. The front of the stand is 30 inches by 30 inches and holds two targets. I screw a 30x30 piece of cardboard on the frame and staple the targets on the cardboard.

I can put a wider piece of 1x2 on finish nails if I want to hang a target on a string like jar lids, and other stuff.

I shoot back in the BLM land, I drive back in on the forest service roads from 3 to about 8 miles off of the main road.

I go shooting with my grandson for the most part. Just the two of us. Occasionally I will take someone else along, but not to often.

I have a lot of steel gongs mounted on 2x4s and some animal silhouettes that are on their own stands. I use those when I go to the range and also set up shoots for my club so they can earn money with them. My gun smith has a 500 yard range I shoot at every now and then. He has berms set up from 25 yards all the way out to 500 yards. He has hanging steel gongs and animal silhouettes as well.

upstate at my folks property is my range.. my range is virtually limitless. My normal shooting area is clear for 100 yards, but I have an area that I can safely shoot out to 800yds. Here's a few pictures of a course of fire I was running. The pictures aren't great, but I just did some screenshots from a video of it.
