If I'm not mistaken SBR and maybe carbine length is what this round was originally designed for (as a PDW round to replace say SMG's, as opposed to the Fn pistol we are all probably also familar with).

I say go for it. I do still wonder about helical mags generally but from what I understand they work well in this platform.

Before the safe act I had an AR57 that uses the same mags. My daughter has it now and 50 round mags too

It was originally designed with the 10 inch barrel in mind. The 16 was an afterthought. For civilian sale because ATF.

I used to have one way back when on NYFirearms. Good balance, accurate at 100 but heavy. Trigger heavy as well.

The SKS has a somewhat heavy trigger to begin with. At least mine did. The linkage didn’t necessarily make it heavier but it kind of felt that way. The take up was spongy. You hit the wall and then it took a little more force afterwards than what I was used to compared to the AR.

By no means was it bad mind you. Just different. When you install the linkage to the trigger, it’s a trial and error. You have to turn the spring that’s screwed into a nut a certain amount of turns. If you turn it too much and it’s too tight, the trigger won’t reset. If you don’t turn it enough and it’s too loose, the trigger won’t pull. I found that out the hard way in the range. Drove all the way to PA and could only fire one round and couldn’t fix it since I had no tools with me. Once I got it right, the trigger was reliable.

The finish. Durable enough but not Glock type springy plastic. Think more like Keltec quality plastic. Maybe less but not junk where it will break with regular usage. It was more rigid so a drop from high enough may form a crack. I never dropped it so I couldn’t tell you but it’s nothing to worry about for a fun FUAC gun.

The stock itself held zero with no problems. The most I shot it at was a hundred yards. Don’t remember the group size but it wasn’t bad. 8 inch circle at 100 yards and all were in without a rest.

I had the first generation stock. The trap door deflected brass back into the chamber occasionally. I ended up just taking the trap door off completely and eliminated the problem. From what I have read on SKS Boards, the newer stocks rectified the problem.

Weight. It was heavy. Maybe about 9 lbs but since all the weight was towards the shoulder, it balanced nice and you didn’t feel it as much as you did when just carrying it. Probably a non issue with a sling. I never carried it in the woods.

Overall, I liked it. I only sold it to a member on NYFirearms to fund a 9mm AR at the time. It was one of those guns that I kind of regret selling. My SKS was the paratrooper version so with the stock it was 26 inches in length on the dot with the 16 inch barrel. Very handy and the recoil was nonexistent due to the ergonomics of it. You didn’t have a long barrel in front of you. It would be a good hunting gun.

Nice. I won't clutter this thread any longer. I'll start my own when stock comes in. I'm looking at about a 5 month backorder wait time.

I had a commerical Norinco with a 17lbs trigger pull. It still to this day had the worst trigger I've ever felt in my life. I've had staple guns I'd rather have the triggers on.


The Yugo I sold to a board memeber here had a pleasant trigger, I'd say 5-7 lbs. Nicest sks I had out of the 3.

I dunno......I have talked up PDWs in the past but that was as ultitarian tool for second line troops. Without a provision for automatic fire and the proper AP ammo the 5.7 and rounds like just don't have much of purpose. Even out of an SBR 5.56 has the goods all over the 5.7, especially when you consider the wide range of SD/HD specific ammunition available in 5.56. Speer Gold Dots, Federal Fusion and Black Hills TSX are just a few and all dona real number on bad guys. So will regular ol' M193 at close range.
You want to get a PS90 because it rustles your jimmies, that is fine, we don't have to justify every gun purchase in terms of practical use just don't think that the 5.7 is a great SD choice.

The P90 certainly rustles my jimmies and I've said just as much in another thread. That being said I think the P90 definitely has it's uses though. Firstly it's a PDW. So to compare it to rifles is wrong from the start. It has to be compared to other PDWs. When looking at it that way I think the only downfall is the magazines. At this point I don't think even the ammo is an issue. It looks like the 5.7 will be around for the foreseeable future.

So comparing it to what some people consider the gold standard in PDWs I'd compare it with the MP5. Unloaded they are about the same in weight and compactness with a slight edge to the P90 on both. Once loaded the weight goes to the P90 hands down. Even fully loaded with 50 rounds vs 30 on the MP5. Load the P90 down to 30 and it's not even fair. The capacity is self evident.

The mags are what might make me choose one over the other. There's simply no easy way to carry the P90 mags outside of some type of bag or such. Although the MP5 mags are a bit long and awkward as well they're still easy to carry on a carrier. Availability of MP5 mags have the edge as well although they are more expensive.

For home defense the P90 is gonna bleed the ears more even if you have the 16 inch barrel so there's that. If you got the disposable income just buy it. The worst you'll do is have a cool ass gun that was way ahead of it's time.

I like my brother’s ps90, if I end up getting one it will end up being SBR’d and Suppressed. Plus I have all the stuff to reload for it.

Don't get me wrong, as a former vehicle mounted solider I would have very much prefered something like the P90 or perhaps even better the MP7. But this is with the understanding that these are final resort, go down fighting and just maybe get lucky weapons. The main purpose of such a weapon is mostly to stay out of the way. Until at least the SF guys got hold of them stranding the rank and file vehicle guys with secondhand M16A2s. Or at least that's how it was when I was in.
