I don't think this is the case. Huntsville does not have the capability of picking up the production of the Ilion facility. As soon as Remington converted $775 million into equity for it's creditors, they signed the NYS plant's death certificate. The new "shareholders", I am sure, are looking to make some of their money back. Knowing that they are operating (and PAYING TAXES!!!) in a state where the governor wants them to go bankrupt, probably is making them nuts. The Huntsville, AL plant has the extra capacity to handle the manufacturing needs of the Ilion plant. I would say; this is probably the end of an era for Remington in Ilion!!
They have the means for expansion. Only time will tell. I hope I'm wrong for the workers!!I don't think this is the case. Huntsville does not have the capability of picking up the production of the Ilion facility.
Andy considers any loss of jobs in the firearms industry acceptable collateral damage if it gets him his socialist utopia. Why would any arms manufacturer want to conduct operations in an anti gun state?
Why would any business at all remain in New York state in particular?
OTOH, could be good for the workers who can relocate. They have the means for expansion. Only time will tell. I hope I'm wrong for the workers!!
This is so true. Andy said we "have no place in New York." It's lefty city folk who have no understanding or the least concern for our way of life, perfectly happy to drive us out of our homes and livelihoods.Andy considers any loss of jobs in the firearms industry acceptable collateral damage if it gets him his socialist utopia.
Close down all the routes into that shithole for 3 days and millions would do anything you asked them to. If I were living on an island you can bet I'd be a little more friendly than a mainlander. This is so true. Andy said we "have no place in New York." Once upon a time Connecticut and upstate NY were the historic strongholds of the gun industry. I've met my share of Ithaca Gun old-timers. It's not just New York now though, look what Colorado did to Magpul.
West Virginia just looks better all the time. Take me home, country road.
They actually don't. They couldn't even fulfill the terms set with the governor when Huntsville opened. You can't expand without certain criteria, and the Huntsville location is hard pressed in a key area. They have the means for expansion. Only time will tell. I hope I'm wrong for the workers!!
Yes. But notice it doesn't say how many of the 450 are non production employees. I know only what I know from people I have talked to and I really doubt the Ilion facility will close, and if it does, it won't be for some time.So they do have the extra capacity at the facility. They just don't have the market for the product then. I just looked it up, they have the capacity of 1,868 employees, they currently are running around 450, that certainly sounds like they have an extra capacity of +/- 75% at the facility. It would actually bode well for their commitment to roll the Ilion workload into the Huntsville, AL plant. Their problem is even if they did build them, they can't sell them.
Below is an excerpt from the following source: ( Remington layoffs to include Huntsville, report says )
"Under the new deal, Remington must maintain an employment level of at least 415 workers in Huntsville. Shane Davis, the city's director of urban and economic development, said at the time that Remington had about 450 employees in Huntsville.
Remington is obligated to employ 1,868 workers at the Huntsville plant by 2023 but has no other employee obligations to meet beyond maintaining the minimum of 415 workers. Remington is scheduled to next give an employee count to Huntsville officials on Dec. 31."
