Me too. I like novel designs like that one. Last I checked, it was ammo picky, but otherwise a good gun. Problem is, I like guns that aren't ammo picky.
The RP9 looks like an Americanized Walther.

They need to stick to rifles. I would never buy a Remington pistol just the same as I would never buy a Glock rifle.
When you are on top of the market and producing a superior product, you need to stick to that. At least that's how I see it. Even the 700's are no longer at the top.
Right, my 700 had an embarrassingly bad stock when I bought it. But I knew that. I knew I was just buying the action. Now it's great.
That video, now having seen it all, was painful to watch.

Nearly the same numbers of failures, the Hi-point had much easier to clear failures, AND much harsher conditions to work in.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I am not a gun snob. If it works, it works. It's $50 or $5000.
I always chuckle at the Youtube comments I get on my most famous video, with nearly 1M views. They always say "Yeah, you have a high point, buy a REAL GUN!" (on a video with nothing to do with the quality of Hi-point, but rather Walmart)
A) A Hi (not HIGH) Point is, in fact, a real gun.
B) This video is not about the Hi-Point, but about the incompetence of Walmart.
C) Hi-Point guns are great. Give me a detailed explanation of the issues you've had with the ones you own. (No response.)
D) If this was a (not so) clever jab at "You must be poor, you own a Hi-Point", please demonstrate you vast collection. I can easily put 5K in my front pockets (ant's that's 1.3K in a single one), and still not try an compare wee wees..

The magazine issue doesn't bother me as much. I break-in all of my semi-auto magazines. The slide release is inexcusable, and would make me question other components in the gun.

An update
I'm guessing this was in R&D before the 9mm resurgence really hit hard. Remington may initally have hoped to capitilize on perceived 9mm inferiority and 'Murica sentiment by releasing it as a .45. With the burgeoning popularity of the 9mm Remington may have switched it to 9mm after the development began. That may also explain the curious magazine issue as well.
