I have a Mossberg 590A1 that has a number of marks on the receiver. They are not scratches, but appear to be some kind of rub marks. Any idea on how to remove them? I will post pictures later.

Most likely will have to get it refinished. Is the 590 parkerized?

Sometimes some rubbing them with some oil on a rag will either remove or hide them.

I am not sure if the receiver is or not. I will check and post pictures when I get home this evening.

IIRC receiver is aluminum for the Mossberg 590A1. I've touched mine up with a Sharpie, but I was just looking to mask the silver-scratch.

Are they gouged at all? if it's just surface marks try an oiled rag. Solvent maybe? Looks almost like someone took a marker to it.

No gouge at all. Smooth like something rubbed it.
I bet a plastic buckle from a sling was rubbing there. Maybe try using one of the Mr. Clean Magic erasers.

Oil first then solvent if the oil doesnt help. If neither of those help maybe a fine brush or brass wool.

Interesting,. I have been a bit dismayed in regards to how easily the finish on my 590A1 gets messed up, even under careful use and pampering.

I use the "Presto Pen" it's like 8$ at most sporting goods stores. It kinda works but depends on what you got going on. And I use Black Sharpies for deeper ones. Those scratches on yours seem relatively large and noticeable, these tricks aren't gonna magically make those dissapear

No It didn't have them when I bought it. Just noticed it yesterday. Has been in the safe for awhile.

Did you buy it new? If the receiver is aluminum, it's probably been hard anodized black. Nothing you can do about that because it's layered only microns thick until you hit bare metal. Otherwise it's a parkerized/nitride or similar type black oxide coating that you also won't be able to thin out without blending the texture around it. Best bet would be to recoat it most likely.
Marks are from another gun in your safe (scope,bolt handle etc..)
