Removing restrictions

I asked this question on the OTHER site a week ago and heard nothing but crickets so here goes:
Anyone know a time frame for asking for removal of restrictions in Rensselaer county? They have had my paperwork ( letter to judge, advanced course papers) for about 5 weeks now. Judge Morgan BTW. I was told he's the one I want. Was also told by the instructor it would be only a couple weeks. Just wondering if anyone else has or is going through something similar in Rensselaer county.

I am in Rensselaer as well. MY wife took the course to get her restrictions remove about 2-3 months after she got her permit. I think it took about 3 weeks. You will get a letter sent to your mailing address with it either granted or denied.

Cant help, but sounds like you got a good judge as someone else just posted about his wife being denied in your county by another judge.

Yeah, I've had mine for almost 2 years and I did it right after the holidays so maybe it was a bad time. Been about 4 -5 weeks

Cant help, but sounds like you got a good judge as someone else just posted about his wife being denied in your county by another judge.

I read that one to. From what I'm told Im in pretty good shape to have him. The instructor I had at the course was explaining how he and that judge are really close friends and that it would only be a couple weeks before he signed off on it so it looks good, but you never know in this place. See what happens , thanks

The last time I had my permit amended (just after new years), the clerk mentioned how slammed they have been with new applications. I see that as a very good thing, but it may also explain the delay you are experiencing.

Concealed carry evaluation course. It's the course you take in Rensselaer county that's required to have your restrictions removed. I think every County is different in what course is acceptable. The one I took was only good in Rensselaer and Greene County I believe

I will say we were getting a couple of pistols added to her permit that we coregister. We did that over the Holiday and it took 5 weeks or so when it normally takes a few days

That's odd. I wonder if there is something going on over there? Not that its the same thing, but my father's judge (Malkonian) usually signs amendments the same day, but it's been two weeks and my dad is still waiting on an amendment.

Could be. I can't even reach the clerk over there. And when I leave a message they never call back. The ONE time he did call me back, and that was before I started this, he told me it's all about the judges schedule. But 3 months seems a little much?

My father said he can't reach the clerk and he won't return his calls either. I have to wonder if the pp clerk is getting overwhelmed. With my last amendment, he gave it (to my benefit) to the wrong judge and it was signed that day when my judge usually takes weeks and normally, I was told, doesn't allow other judges to sign off on amendments. It's really frustrating how "closed door" every aspect of the whole thing is. Might be worth making the trip down to the office to try and see what is going on. I'm thinking about starting the process of having my restrictions removed and considering people are having problems hearing anything from the clerks office, I may just stop down there and talk to him in person. Definitely keep us updated on this.

Absolutely, will do. It's is very frustrating when something takes a lot longer than it's supposed to but it's maddening when you can't even find out why. I've called the main number at the clerks office and spoke to her about reaching the pistol permit clerk and she tells me ," that's odd, he usually returns all of his calls. I'm looking at him right now at his desk and he doesn't have anybody with him, I'll transfer you over." Rings 10 times and goes to answering machine. WTF. I called back to the main number and she says he must have somebody in there with him. Leave a message, he'll call you shortly. No lady, he won't, that's why I'm calling you! I may try to reach out to the instructor for the concealed carry course as he tells me that him and the judge are very close friends. He also seemed to be very confident about all of us at the class having our unrestricted a few weeks after the course. Go figure. Could be that I have absolutely no patience. I will keep everyone updated.

You can also try calling Frank Merola, the actual Rensselaer county clerk. He might be able to tell you something.

Just a quick update in case anyone's been paying attention. Still nothing on the amendment to have my restrictions removed, been over 3 months. However, by some stroke of luck, the pistol permit clerk actually answered the phone last Wednesday and pleaded my case. He told me it was not on his desk and that was a good thing. He said he makes frequent daily trips to my judges office , took my contact info and told me he would call the next day to let me know as it was kind of strange I haven't heard anything. I have not heard back since. Shocker.

County Clerk has a fiduciary responsibility to answer inquiries regarding anything files through its office. A simple acknowledgement of receipt is and should be acceptable. As for processing time? Well, 3 months seems paltry in comparison to some counties. As an aside, making too many inquiries and lending the appearance of being anxious to obtain the carry permit would raise my eyebrows... Just saying! Who knows, maybe you have the same name as an Ax Murdered? Lol... You never know ; )

I have not. Not even sure what number to call. And i agree with Cooolone, dont want to come off as a nervous nelly waiting for this. The time frame just seems excessive. Especially when they dont return phone calls

Hmmmmm...Yeah I just looked at the Website and they revamped it. It used to have a page with Franks direct line listed and saying that if you have any questions or concerns (including pistol permit) to not hesitate to call.
Seems like they have been making a lot of changes at least regarding the PP. Might just have to do with the volume of applicants. Again your judge may also have a heavy case load.
I hear you on the not wanting to seem too anxious to get your unrestricted. It's always that trepidation between being the squeaky wheel that gets the grease and getting the shaft for being a pain in their ass. Maybe just stop down and talk to the clerk face to face. IDK, this sucks man. I feel for you. Hopefully you get the call soon.

Appreciate it, yeah I'm sure it'll happen soon one way or another and that's fine. It's just the no information status that gets me. I'll update in a couple weeks or when something transpires.

Update for anyone interested-finally received my permission slip from the judge today to allow me to carry unrestricted. No phone call, no face to face. 3 1/2 months from the date of the evaluation class.
