Rifle Light/Mount on Pistol

Bear with me, this is probably a stupid question but I have been a rifle guy for a long time and this is a (hopefully) short term solution until I can put a proper light under this.

I don't intend holstering this pistol, this is a bump in the night gun. I am not concerned about things that go bump in the night that have two legs, I'm concerned about coyote.

Is this just plain wrong and more importantly, stupid in terms of the light/mount? It balances very well but I'm concerned about how far forward that light is.

It seems serviceable for the scenario as you have described (but for me personally not ideal). I can picture how to activate the light with a one hand grip, but how is it activating with a two hand grip?

It works really well as long as I have both hands on the weapon (which is obviously not ideal but this is step out the back door and engage 4 legged critter as needed). In fact in two handed mode it is pretty great as I can use my left thumb for the momentary light as needed.

I'm just not sure about having the light so far forward of the muzzle?

ETA: the on/off is on the butt of the flashlight (Fenix PD35 which lights up the whole yard on high).

It's wrong. If you learn to run a hand held light with a pistol you will know why. There is no control of the light the way you have it mounted. You will be better off holding it in your hand.

That thing is so silly it makes me want to contribute to a go fund me for a proper pistol light.

You can do just fine with a regular flashlight you know. All kinds of techniques for light usage in the support hand.

Have you tried shooting it like that? To me, it looks like a lot of leverage on that mount with the light sticking out that far. It might flip out when you need it.

I don't like pistol mounted lights. Try holding a light and a pistol at the same time. Its not that hard.

Appreciate the feedback all around, thanks fellas. Sounds like I just need to get down on the range and start training different.

I'm used to having a light mounted on a carbine so it seems natural to have there. I'm not worried about giving away my position in this context. I am not concerned about working hallways in my house. I am down an AR9 for a while... money is a bit tight at the moment... I have shotguns for daytime but looking for something for winter nighttime and this was something I had on hand without buying mounts, other lights, etc. This light fires up the entire yard like a highway work light.

I have long guns I could put this on (.223/.308) but I live on top of a 400' dome surrounded by suburbs within 1/2 mile or so, so have always been careful about where those rounds would go if I had to fire in the dark in a hurry, hence my original AR9 for this application.

Sounds like I should do what I did with the carbine- hit the range and work. I'm good with that- it's why I asked.

a little fugly .. but its out there where muzzle blast wont effect the glass/plastic lens of the light , just give it some body charring over time ..
what works for others may not work for you or I .. if we don't experiment and try new things ... might as well just stay in the basement on the playstation

put some random targets out back .. wait a hour or more then walk out the door and shoot them up .. see how you do in the dark with the light ..

i was going to put my big ass scope , 50mm obj on a little old moss 152 22LR for a rimfire shoot ... would looked so fkin funny .. why .. because i can ..
and who knows how it would do with out trying it ..
