Rifle optic decision. Aimpoint or Eotech

Currently trying to decide on a rifle optic, will mainly be going on my Saiga (either an RS regulate mount or midwest depending on what ever comes in stock first, so sadly probably the midwest)

I've decided it will be between the two(ish) options

Either an Eotech EXPS2-? Or an Aimpoint T2 (but maybe a compm5??)

Now the trying to do the pros and cons to each..

Both rugged as fuck, and both quality glass and dot.

Eotech don't have to worry if my eyes go to shit. Has a 1 moa dot but also a 65moa circle.

Downside is battery life is trash (as with all holographic sights) with about 1,000 hours battery life, but also has auto shut off after 8 hours.

Aimpoint is a single 1 moa dot no circle, can be affected by astigmatism, but gives me like 5 year constant on battery life, never turns off.

I had both and preferred the Eotech because it gave the feeling of looking through a window, everything open and easy to see, I liked the circle too, though many don't. Its close though and the Aimpoint is a good rugged piece of equipment.

Yeah I know what way I'm leaning but both are great optics so its hard to pick lol

Earlier Eotech had POI shift issues due to temperature swings. Test your optic for POI shifts with temperature swings, ie: very cold mornings and warm afternoons.

I could never tolerate Eotech. Multipoint laser display was totally incompatible with my astigmatism. That’s me. Your eyesight may vary.

See and I heard holographic sights are the way to go with an astigmatism.

It’s why I have a problem buying any optics without being able to “kick the tires”. Vortex spotting scopes were supposed to be the cats ass, but I got one home and just couldn’t stand it. Totally “fuzzy” optics. No clarity. Maybe I just have bad eyes, but my Nikon and Weaver scopes seem just fine...

I have a Vortex Razor on a 45 mount for my AR, I really like it. I think Vortex makes some of the best sights at a reasonable price.

And their warranty is hard to beat.

The reflex red dot? Similar to the RMR or 507?

I’m a big fan of my Aimpoint CompM5 too, absolute beast of an optic. I’ve got astigmatism, but the aimpoint bloom less than some of the cheaper ones for me (Sig Romeo5). If you don’t mind a pistol dot the Aimpoint Acro is cool too, besides the 6 month battery crap.

I know you said no to holosun, but my HS510c and all their circle dots I’ve looked through look the best with my astigmatism. If I needed another optic, I’d probably look to get Holosun’s aimpoint profile optic with the circle dot reticle.

I have an ultimak on my saiga but id rather keep that space available for my light mount and pressure pad, also allows me to activate the light while still seeing through the sight if its on a side mount like an RS.

I’m sure you’ve thought about it, but have you considered an LPVO? Lots of people prefer them to the whole red dot + magnifier thing. And when it comes to astigmatism they can’t be beat. If I were considering to drop the coin on an Eotech + Eotech mag, I’d just go Vortex Razor Gen 2 instead and get that clear 1-6 zoom. I have a Viper PST and despite its shortcomings it’s still pretty badass, almost makes me want to replace my aimpoint with it.

(On top of the cost of the side mount) then since the option would be there easily to do id get an offset (90° or 45°) red dot anyways so now there is the cost of that mount an then easily another $240 minimum (holosun 407c) or more depending on red dot...

By the time everything is all said and done with the LPVO route (which I do believe is all around the most versatile and what i wish i could do at this point) i would have dropped enough money that I could have gotten into NODs and an eotech or close to it

May just be my face proportions, but I can’t imagine the epic chin weld involved with running that mount/optic setup on my Saiga.

I agree with your assessment generally but I think if you’d spend that much on an LPVO/red dot combo you might be the kind to spend closer to $4-5k on nods and a laser.
