I am thinking about joining the Rochester Rifle Club so I can shoot indoors during the winter. I visited the club and it looks pretty good. Is anyone a memebr? If so, any comments?

I have never been there but heard that all targets are 25 yards. There is another option. Try the Genesee conservation league in Penfield. They have both an indoor and outdoor pistol range plus an outdoor rifle range. I have been a member for a couple of years. There are different target distances at both pistol ranges.
RRC is a smallbore rifle range. Not particularly suited for handguns larger than 9mm/38 Special. No magnum ammo, no human silhouette targets.
GCL is a more expensive but better choice depending upon what you're looking for and the ventilation system is better as well.
RRC is perfect for shooting Sporterrife or rimfire Bullseye as long as you don't mind the fine coating of lead dust and powder residue that collects on you hands, clothes, and hair if you spend any significant amounts of time on the range.

I was told to look into GCL too, but I'm also looking at over $300+ with fees to join and use the ranges. I don't know enough because I go to the Pin right now, but that seems like a lot. Yeah, a buck a day I guess if you look at it, but that's a lot to put down up front.

Nothing personal against RRC but any indoor range you frequent needs a decent ventilation system and needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. Airborne lead contamination is a problem and the contamination doesn't always come from the projectile. there is lead in the primer that becomes airborne upon the cartridge being fired unless you use ammo such as WinClean. What doesn't get inhaled collects of every surface on the range and you will ingest more lead contaminants through absorption than you will by inhalation and you can't help but touch benches, walls, target stands, etc. and this film collects on your clothing, skin, and hair.
I stopped frequenting indoor ranges on a regular basis a long time ago when my lead/blood ratio was tested at 30 times above the acceptable levels.
GCL is a fairly clean range. RRC not so much.
Just food for thought.

I'm not a big fan of many of the rules that take the fun out of going to the range, like no double taps and ridiculous fee's. and really... "50 foot range"? That's pretty lame.

If you are in the area, Mendon Conservation League has a 60 yard pistol range,100 yard rifle range, trap and skeet and archery. Dues are $90 which includes your whole family. Check it out.

The ventilation system is fine. In fact, I think it is better than the Firing pin. They added extra blowers and when these run they definitely cause the air to go down range.
The club is very strong on safety. Many of the rules might seem excessive but they are really not an issue for me and generally insure safe shooting. Their insistence on using empty chamber indicators is a very good thing. I'd love to see that at other indoor and outdoor ranges.
The two main points for me is that the distance is fixed a 50 feet and you can only load 5 rounds. The 50' puts emphasis on accuracy-something I need to improve. The 5 rounds is not really an issue since my revolvers are 6 rounds at the most and I can load multiple mags for my semi-autos to keep things moving along.

The no silhouette rule is not a limit for me since it you hit the middle of the target it does not matter!

me too. It took me a couple years to join, only to find out all the restrictions. If you like shooting BB guns, Pellet guns and 22cal, go to RRC
or you could come out to Four Points Rod and Gun club. I think it's $90/yr, two trap fields, a skeet field and a rifle and pistol range. The rifle range goes out to 200 yards.
from the city, take 490 west to rt 259, go south (turn left) drive six miles, as soon as you cross over the thruway, turn left into the driveway. Thursday night the club is open for a "social hour" and if you want to blast a few clay's, knockyourselfout.

I have been to Four Points. A nice club. I was looking for a place to shoot inside since I am already a member of Brooks where I can shoot outside-weather permitting.
The only other places to shoot inside in the area is GCL and Firing Pin. GCL is also a nice club, but I prefer Brooks for outside shooting. The cost to join GCL just to shoot inside was not in my budget.
As for the Firing Pin, I used that most of last year. $13/hr is expensive so I was looking for an alternative.
At RRC, I can shoot all of my pistols except w/o any magnums. So I can stay in practice with my 9mm, 45, 38 Spl, and 44 Spl along ofcourse with any 22s. Works for me!
You can only load 5 rounds? What on earth is the reason for that? Sounds like FUD heaven - a range that thinks the Safe Act wasn't strong enough. No thanks.

It's warm in the winter, any non magnum pistol, available 24/7 unless an event is
going on, I do shoot 22lr and some pellet. It's easy for me to get to.
It's not to costly.
For me the positives out way the negatives.
I also belong to Ontario Rod and Gun Club for the benefits of a longer range without the restrictions.
