Does anyone have one of these lever guns? If so what do you think of it and how does it run?

I spent the extra few $$ and got the .357/.38 (just making fun of the misprint.). I had a 20"? barrel version a few years ago. It needed an action job, it was way to stiff. After that it was fine. I shot mostly elcheapo 38 out of it. worked fine. As with most model 92's they get better with age.

I have been looking for the Stainless 16" version for a bit now to go with my Sp101. Just trying to find a decent price. Those damn Marlins are priced too high to be a closet queen.
I have read that the actions are stiff out of the box and need to be stoned a bit to get rid of the rough spots.

I love mine. Liked it enough to get its cousin in .44. It does need some working of the action to work out the stiffness. Changed out the sights for fiber optic post and rear peep sight and it's a quick gun.

The rifles I picked up during my time in PA. The sights came from Steves Gunz, Rossi 92 Specialist

The consensus I am getting is it will need an action job. Did you guys DIY or did you go to a smith for it?
With the top ejection port mounting a scope is not possible unless you mount a EER scope or a red dot up on the barrel. I have read they are drilled and tapped under the rear sight leaf.
I want it to compliment my GP100 and someday my SP101 or LCR ill pick up.

I have one in stainless with the octagon barrel. I love mine so much that I went out and bought a blued model in .45 LC. Both rifles are excellent in both fit and finish and they both both operate very smoothly.
I have a M92, in 45lc. The action was a bit stiff when new, but slicked up real nice after "some" use. There's no way I would get rid of this rifle. But then again, I have been known to be a lever gun whore!!

I've got one and like it. The fit and finish are beautiful on the outside, but the inner parts look like they were gnawed out by rats.
Some of those burrs were almost 1/inch high. Some of those were making the action bind up every once in a while.

I have the 20 inch blue round. I love it. Easily one of my favorite. 38 specials feel like you are shooting a 10/22. I did remove the rear wingnut safety and replace it with a peep sight. I also replaced the stock ejector spring to prevent orbital launch of brass. I bought Steve's DVD as well. Honestly YouTube could probably help you with the teardown, but his video is comprehensive.
Thanks for all of this info. Really makes me feel more comfortable picking up a Rossi. Thinking about trading for it. Waiting for some pictures.
How difficult was it to remove that safety?

The safety is retained by a pin. Knock it out and the safety pops out.

Just went out and shot the Rossi I got. It is sweet. Shoots like a dream with .38 and .357. Might have to load my .357 slightly shorter to feed properly (one jammed) but the rifle is a keeper and easily my favorite long gun.

Ya. It is very fun. I only shot maybe 20 rounds so far. Very light and handy, good companion for the GP100 but really adds some velocity to those light .38s. I don't have a chronograph but the steel tells the story lol.
I did notice it chewed up the lip on a few pieces of brass however. Ill have to keep an eye on that. Did anyone notice that with theirs, or any other lever gun?

The Rossi extractor jumps the rim of the cartridge by design. So it has the tendency of chewing up some brass. The Steve's Guns DVD shows how to modify your extractor to prevent this. You would basically grind away of bit of the extractor to make it more flexible. The bit you grind away is completely hidden in the bolt. I recommend checking the extractor for burrs, and lightly bevel the sharp edges of the extractor.
Also, you're right about the OAL of the cartridges. Lever guns chambered in pistol cartridges tend to run better with certain OALs and bullet profiles. Depending on the bullet geometry, I load to a max OAL of 1.58". Anything longer and the cartridge gets hung up on the mouth of the chamber.
The Rossi isn't a perfect out of the box rifle. But a few minor finishing steps by the owner can make it a very smooth and sweet rife. I bought the DVD and cleaned my rifle up personally. I'll admit not everyone would want to do this. I learned a lot about how the rifle worked in the process. They don't disassemble like a modern firearm. They require a few tools. If you ever want the take the bolt out. you will need a dummy 357 cartridge. So if you're a reloader you can make one, or just use a 357 snap cap.
