Good job, Alabama. I don't care if the accusations were true, somewhat true, or entirely false. This guy was a terrible candidate. His arrogance and the obliviousness of his supporters encouraged him to stay in and now it's obvious that was a mistake.

So now one of the most red states in the union just gave up a senate seat. What a pathetic showing this election was by the republicans.

Margin of Jones' victory was just over 9K votes.
Write-in votes were over 20K.

Apparently, a lot of Republicans could not bring themselves to vote for a Liberal Democrat. But, they also could not manage to get themselves to vote for the heavily flawed Republican candidate. So, they wrote in another Republican of their choice.

In the next election, if the Republicans have a candidate that is less severely flawed (i.e. potentially socially repugnant) those write-in votes will go to the Republican candidate who will then win the seat back.

I can't help, but think there is more at play here. This was done on purpose. Why did he not take one for the team and now out. There were other unsavory things in his past too. I could be off base, but it seems to me that most people have had enough of the crap the left is pushing these days. Even a lot of my lefty NYC friends are fed up with it at this point. I think we're ready for some politicians who don't want to get bogged down in moral issues on either side. I also think there are plenty of people willing to vote for someone who has strong religious beliefs, but not someone who brandishes this type of hellfire and damnation and wants to apply it while they're in office.
