Russell v. New Jersey

This 2nd Amend. case will soon (~Nov. 2021) by US high court
Issues: (1) Whether the Second Amendment protects the right to carry arms outside of the home for self-defense; and (2) whether the government may deny law-abiding citizens their exercise of the right to carry a handgun outside of their homes by conditioning the exercise of the right on showings of need.

This will affect any NYer wishing to conceal carry.

Nothing will change. It will end up that you can but for security reasons the government can place reasonable restrictions as well as private businesses.
Some licensing schemes may change like nyc where it’s too burdensome to get a full carry permit but the government will still be able to make you jump through hoops to get it.

I just heard that they *may* be combining the NJ case with the NYSRPA case. They are essentially similar, albeit different states. NJ wants to see how the NY case plays out but SCOTUS may decide otherwise.

The cert petition is scheduled for the SCOTUS long conference of 9/27. There will be a list of petitions from that conference that were granted or denied published on the following Monday (October 4th). If this case is not on that list then it survived to see another conference or it is being held for some other case, presumably NYSRPA v. Bruen. Rarely, SCOTUS will grant a petition after its conference but before the Orders List is published.
