Putnam judge James Reitz dies after heart attack in court
I am shocked and saddened by this.
Judge Reitz, more than anyone, is responsible for what the pistol permitting process is today in Putnam (which is to say much better than it was before he took office).
That's not the only reason he will be missed of course but probably the most germane to post here.
Wow! Very sad.
Wow that’s crazy. Poor guy, RIP
I am actually wondering what happens next for permits/ amendments. We currently have two judges "on loan" from Westchester but I dont think they do anything with permits/amendments. So now we have no elected judge in the county, and no "licensing officer."
One thing I can say is that I know the county clerk has always been pro-second Amendment, and he is a hunter. I know him personally, although I couldn't consider him a friend but we have a common family member through marriage.
And this is more than we can say about Westchester as everybody is anti-gun in Westchester. It'll be curious to see how the permitting process works out with the two judges on loan.
I would not be unhappy if DA Tendy ran for the position. Stand up guy from what I have seen/know at least.
Judge Reitz's passing is a tragedy in many ways. His wake is being held at the Putnam County Emergency Services Bureau. I went around 5:30 pm. The line to pay respects was hundreds of people long, took well over an hour. He will be missed.
I'm glad to hear that.
Has anyone heard anything about what the permit / amendment process is now?
