I am thinking of making a purchase on gunbroker.com . (handgun )Some of you folks have used them anything to watch out for ? If you pay for the firearm ....Credit card better than a personal check ? I will need to contact a FFL in the area before purchase On occasion I go to the firing pin in Bergen from reading their website they will accept the firearm and help with the transfer . . I have a coupon and The firing pin will be involved with that in order to pick it up from them ? Some of these handguns are half price than what Field and Stream are asking .

I never use a personal check to make a purchase on GB. All vendors there will make you wait until their bank clears your check. ( 10- 14 days) I have always used a postal money order. Never had any issues what so ever. My advise would be to read the terms of payment and transfer very carefully on each individual auction.
I have purchased several hand guns on GB without a single negative issue. Good Luck

First off fuck Field and Dicks. Second, most of the online places are becoming close in price and are just about as "safe" as buying anything else you'd buy online. Ive bought 4 online from 3 different places all went smoothly. Using a CC is quicker but you may get tagged with a small fee. If you want it quicker than bank authorizations and wait periods than go the CC way. Even with the fee it will be cheaper than Gander,Dick(and other stores under their names) etc. Prices really can't be beat with online auctions or grab a gun or buds.

Same here, I've sold a few too. You aren't going to find better deals on guns than what these auction sites have.

I've purchased a few from different vendors on GB.
Here's my advice.. Always check the seller's rating. I stay away from sellers that have no feed-back (could be a new seller or a scammer.) that just me.
Check the photos & description of the firearm. (especially w/ private sellers) Does it look legit? if something looks off/ not right- I would pass on it. Ask for more photos if you're not 100% sure. Ask questions.
I never send a personal check because too much info on it (acct#, routing#, etc.) Besides, some sellers won't accept a personal check.
I either send a cert bank check, money order or credit card. depending on what the seller will accept. Sending a check takes a couple day to clear before seller ships. no biggie.
Once you won the bid/purchase on the firearm. GB/ seller will email payment instructions to you. At that point you can contact your FFL to let them know you will be using them (FFL) to accept a transfer-in firearm. They (your FFL) will send the seller/seller's FFL a copy of their FFL license.

The OP should also remember that Gun Broker has numerous protections in place to keep you from getting burned too badly.
If an unreviewed seller has something @livingston wants he could always send some question messages to feel the seller out.

Yes GunBroker works well, especially when purchasing from experienced known vendors. If a newbie seller is ignorant then you might have a headache but if they have a track record of selling pistols then they know the sequence. You'll want to give the Firing Pin a heads up and they can email or fax their FFL info to the seller's FFL.

Never use a personal check.

I've never had a problem and Gun Broker has a specific refund clause regarding items received in a condition other than advertised. Your paranoia is unfounded and counter productive to the thread.

No it isn't. I mentioned in a previous post that you get double the protection. If GunBroker fails you have a credit card or PayPal and a credit card.

That isn't paranoia. I'm not walking in circles waiting for the item to arrive chewing on my fingernails. It's insurance. I don't worry about it for $29.99 but it's on my mind for $1299.99. I can't spare the ladder.

I've been on this planet for quite awhile, I know how to negotiate and make a deal on just about anything , with just about anybody.
I have Never just blindly purchased anything from anyone on line.I have never had an issue even once using a Postal Money Order as my form of payment. I also would Not rely on the US post office to refund me my money. GB has provisions in place for that. If I find a firearm that I'm interested in on GB I'll email the seller a ton of questions. Better yet, if they are receptive to the idea, and most are, I will ask for a phone number so that I can talk to the shop owner or private seller directly. You can learn a whole hell of a lot about someone just from talking to them.

I've bought several firearms that were listed on Gun Broker, very easy transaction and always paid with a Postal Money Order. I've alway been satisfied with what I bought. In fact I just got in a nice Rossi 971 - 357mag revolver that was bought on Gun Broker. I went down Friday for the NICS and got delayed even with my "Unique Pin Number" with the electronic file system, So I have to go back to the FFL guy to pick it up one day this week.

I don't do plastic, so Postal Money Orders are my best way to go.

If you shop o Gun broker and keep checking in you can get good deals on what you are looking fr.
This Rossi 971 with the muzzle compensator cost me $280 and $15 shipping, They are selling for $450 here locally. I already have one, wanted the other one for my kids inheritance, I try to buy double everything so each of the kids have one and it will cut the fighting out when I cash in my chips.


Nice carry 357, the one I have is as accurate as they get.

Bought lots of stuff off of Gunbroker. More than once I've been all excited about a gun, read the fine print, and realized they don't ship to N.Y. I've almost bid on a few of these until I calmed down enough to read the fine print and noticed that little detail. Wouldn't be the end of the world, but you'd rather not have to contact a seller and retract your bid/purchase because of it.
