At a crucial moment during 2020’s racial justice protests, Seattle police exchanged a detailed series of fake radio transmissions about a nonexistent group of menacing right-wing protesters.

The radio chatter about members of the Proud Boys marching around downtown Seattle, some possibly carrying guns, and then heading to confront protesters on Capitol Hill was an improper “ruse,” or dishonest ploy, that exacerbated a volatile situation, according to findings released Wednesday by the city’s Office of Police Accountability.


The ruse happened on the night of June 8, 2020, hours after the Police Department had abandoned its East Precinct on Capitol Hill and just as protesters were starting to set up the zone that was later called the Capitol Hill Organized Protest, or CHOP.


The officers who participated described a group gathering by City Hall and moving around downtown. They delivered reports such as, “It looks like a few of them might be open carrying,” and: “Hearing from the Proud Boys group. … They may be looking for somewhere else for confrontation.”

Thats the million dollar question.

The thought has to cross your mind that they (the mayor) needed to get as many police away from the precinct as possible So the peaceful protestors could burn it in peace. In other words a diversion.

I dont know, there had to be a good reason to do this at this time.

I don't mean this to be personal but this trend of reading headlines and not details drives me nuts. Whether you buy the official story or not is a separate issue, and I probably don't condone this under any circumstances personally, but there is a very clear official story presented if you bother to look past a headline.

They claim it was a sanctioned ruse; intended to lure 'protestors' away from the CHOP area so they could gain some ground, because they knew 'protestors' were monitoring their radio traffic.

Don't base your opinions on headlines/taglines alone folks. All sources are biased and trying to make a narrative which evokes a biased reaction. This is a huge problem with our current society's intake of media, and the nature of current media itself across all political spectra.

Ok Ill buy that. I misread it to mean that the Police were being pulled from the area in order to stop the proud boys from fighting with the insurgents, thereby weaking thier position . Obviously that wasnt the case .
