Should I trade one of my 700 Police rifles?

Is it too much to have two of the same rifle? Well, sort of the same. I got the 700 Police in the 20" fluted bull barrel, and one in the 24" full/extended barrel. Honestly when I shoot 7.62 LR, I grab the 20" fluted. So if I were to ditch the 26", what could I trade it for that would be fun and of equal value? Is there a 338 Lapua for equal value made by Remington, Savage, Thompson Center, or Ruger? Or are those way higher value than a 700 Police? Right now I am running a Springfield Armory Government Gen 3 on the 20" fluted, and a Nikon M308 on the 26"

Oooh!!! Good idea! I wonder what the cost would be for an AR-10 build? I assume my 700P with glass and bipod is worth about $1.1K or so. Not sure I can put an AR10 together for that. Seems like an AR-10 would be more like $1.5K to $2K. My AR-15 cost me about $1.5K without glass, IIRC. I think my bolt was $200, lower was $100, upper was $600, trigger was $200, glass was $300, and all the extra crap was maybe $200. Give or take.

The Sako is available in 6.5CR but their nice version is model 85. That's like $2.5K. The RPR is available in the 6.5CR too and is about $1.4K. Also jumping into the game is Thompson Center. Their Dimension line has been supposedly available in the 6.5CR since January or so. What I like most about Ruger is they are in Southport, CT. My mom is in the Greens Farms part of Westport about 5 miles from Southport. So if I ever need work on a Ruger; they are right there and I have somewhere to sleep that night. I'm kinda spoiled that way with Remington. They are in Ilion, like 15 miles from my house. Sako is Finland, right?

If I had to pick one, I'd take a Sako 85 over the RPR, but that's my own preference. Sako is Finnish, and the parent of Tikka, but foreign doesn't matter to me. Chassis versus stock, foreign vs domestic, lots of personal and subjective choices that go into the choice.

Tikka's making a better out of box rifle than anything Remington currently offers today in the same price range, it's not even close. Most accurate guns I own are Remington 700 based, but quality control on anything short of the Police models is a crapshoot to put it mildly these days. Add the increasing number of aftermarket options for Tikka and you'll see the Finns are here to stay.

I think I can land a Ruger Precision for something in the $1.3K range. So if I buy one of those, and flip the PSS for like $1K I am out $300 and the cost of glass for a 6.5CM.

When he gets back from vacation I will have to convince him to let me try his Begara. I kind of liked the B14 Hunting & Match in 6.5CR. And at $1.1K it's affordable. But is that better than the Ruger Precision which is only $200 more? I just wrote to a person I know that owns a local gun shop and asked if he would be interested in putting my 24" on consignment; then I can use the sale of that to put down on the RPR (or maybe I should get a Bergera?).

I will have to check and see if they can do the floated and bedded design like they do with the 700 Police. That might be a really viable option. I have to admit though - the Ruger RPR and the Tikka are truly sexy though. Maybe I can flip this 700P for $1K with glass. That gets me like 80% of the way there to a Tikka or RPR.

I do like my tikka t3x ctr 308 but mags are crazy expensive. I was going to buy a rpr when they first came out, but patience for a firearm isn't a quality I have. I bought something else. I hope the bugs are worked out of the rpr with their gen II.

Normally I would just buy whatever - I am like you - totally impatient. But what happened is both of my bulldogs became very ill. I lost Petunia, the love of my life, and her husband Max is on Chemo as of 4 weeks ago too. So I am into Veterinary Hospital of CNY for like $8K. I am therefore on frivolous spending lockdown for a few months as per my wife's orders. ;-(

Yeah - my dogs are awesome. But Petunia was somehow special beyond that. She truly was my soulmate. I am sure we will be back together again in many iterations. I just feel it.
