i am not one to second guess a gun store owner but you knkow a bad storm is coming and have mandatory evacuations, maybe put all the pistols in the safe?? or a secured locker? maybe not leave them on display for looters??

Sorry man, but I gotta go with it's not his fault. That is assuming he followed acceptable laws for securing the firearms, which probably calls for active alarms, etc.

The only ones who are at fault are the thieves. The gun grabbers will use something like this incident to tell you how easy firearms are to "obtain". They will leave out the part that the firearms were "obtained" illegally, through looting! :banghead:

Thanks! I appreciate that, and would do the same for you. But obviously there are enough other scumbags out there in the world, that we need to be taking steps to properly secure our property.

And in that respect, I vote that this guy is an idiot.

Think about it this way. You own a nice home in a busy, thriving, safe neighborhood. And, being a dealer, you have a very nice knife collection displayed in your den for in home sales, with a sign out front. One day, Mother Nature decides to let the SHTF weather wise. And the authorities tell everyone to leave for their own safety. And you think that you'll just lock up your house like always, and leave with everyone else.

Of course, some opportunistic thieves decide that with everyone gone in the neighborhood, that it is probably a good time to go looting to see what they can find and steal. And so, they break in, and steal all of your knives. It was easy, with no neighbors around, no dogs, - and with the cops off busy taking care of other emergencies.

So, are the lowlife scumbags who broke in and stole your stuff to blame? Absolutely. But do you share some of the responsibility for not taking steps to further secure the knives given that no one is going to be around? I'd say so.

I think the store owner in this case was just as careless.
