If you rent a car in Upstate New York, you’ll have to pay one more surcharge on top of existing taxes and fees charged at the rental counter.
A budget deal reached by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state Legislature includes a new 6 percent surcharge on any car rental in Upstate New York.
The state wants to use the surcharge – expected to generate $22 million per year – to help pay for the operations of Upstate New York transit systems including Centro in Central New York.
