Steel case question

A friend of mine gave me a bag of steel case 357, and 38, cases. I told him I did'nt know if they can be reloaded or not.

Im not sure if some a nickel either.

Dont go there?

As far as I know steel case can't be reloaded.

Or if it can be it is so difficult to do so that it's legit not even worth the effort

FWIW, a friend claimed he reloaded some steel cased 9mm. He said it was hard on the dies. Not exactly sure what he saw. Guy friend. We don't use many words.

Skip the steel cases.

A magnet will separate the steel from nickel plate cases.

Nickle plated brass is awesome brass..

Back when people still shot guns and I was building up my 9mm brass collection I always got excited when i saw a pile of Speer brass someone shot and left behind

I have reloaded steel 7.62x39 cases before. It was a royal PIA and I do not recommend it. They can be reloaded as long as you have the right equipment and primers. But way more PIA than I am willing to deal with again.

I know this sounds stupid but Whats the best way to ID Nickle plated brass? scratch it?

I tend to think I have a bag of them , silver shiny. I believe they came from law enforcement range, not positive.

If it's nickel, it normally will be shiny. Steel will normally be a duller gray/brown/greenish color. If it's steel, it will attract a magnet. If it's nickel/brass, it will not.

If its shiny, its nickel. If in doubt, use a magnet.

If it looks shiny like a brand new nickel then it's well nickel coated lol if it's dull and looks like communism then it's steel case
