Sad that the Dean doesn't care about the Rights of his Students.
He could obviously do things about this. To start, he could suspend the ones who called in the false report, thus delaying or ending their college career, and he could fire or suspend the campus security who decided to "stop and frisk" a student without probable cause.
Now, he's just going to have to pony up a LOT of dough to this person or risk having what little reputation Kent State may have dragged through the muck.

Performing a search absent a genuine suspicion of criminal activity is an unlawful search. Errrr on the side of caution doesn't cut it, sorry. To perform said search in front of classmates and prior to an example which would impact the students performance is damaging. That damage can be the basis for recovery through the courts. I would sue the campus police, the school, and the person lodging the complaint!

Never say anything you don't want to go around. IF I'm asked if I have a carry permit, I ignore the question and if asked again, I ask why the question and that usually gets me away from the initial question. Advertising a permit could bite one in the @$$ from even the closest friends. Something stupid said like.."you have a gun, use it" in public.
