it's not really going to create any jobs. It's not any kind of economic scheme, but at least SOMEONE will benefit from it. Restaurants, hotels and such, should see a benefit

I gave up sledding about 15 years ago but remember some of the politics. The clubs lobbied to increase the registration $$ amount to increase funds for trails. This could be offset if you joined a club . The monies were stolen by Albany and the clubs had to sue the state.. These monies are not taken from the general tax funds, they are raised by the snowmobile registrations ! Now Cuomo likes anything that he can tax , so once every few years he puts on a new shiny snowmobile coat and takes a few pictures on the Tug Hill.
ATV's , under State law EVERY MACHINE MUST BE REGISTERED, even if used on personal property.. ATV's out sell snowmobiles now so the registration money is huge but with zero benefits given back to the sport. Last I knew zero money from that tax was given back for any form of trail system. If you see a trail system it is funded by a private clubs or town & county run.. I believe NY is the only state in the union that actually outlaws atv's for road use. I have heard rumor's that Cuomo actually wants to change this because its a gold mine of money for the state . But like any other Upstate want and need it is killed off by the NY City environmentalist..

My father-in-law got a refund on the registration monies he had to send in when a judge ruled that NY couldn't force registration without having benefits for ATV riders. ie: there is no ATV trail system in NY.

Possibly, I wouldn't push the issue myself because for the 25 years I've been riding the police always ask for reg and insurance.. but if I strictly rode private property, hell no I wouldn't waste the $15.

thats not true. I have a Can-Am 570 that I originally did register and insure, but we only use it on private property. So we let it lapse. IF YOU RIDE ON PUBLIC TRAILS then yes, you need to register it and insure it.
My wife use to work for Filers Power Sports in Macedon, she knows the rules. Unless something changed in the last 24 months???

Years ago we went to PA timberridge trail system to ride our dirt bikes...they have the idea... let em ride between the oil pumps or whatever and we wont have to mow it...al win..... and people followed the rules!! it was not chaos....... no fees no ins........atleast I dont remember paying a fee to ride but it was a while ago but loved it.

ATV's and UTV's under 1000 lbs and 70" wide have to registered in NY, with a few exceptions. Mine is registered in PA. It's easier, and it's over 1000# so it can't be registered in NY anyway. The only reason I register it in PA is so I can ride trails there.
