In this video I cover the Roundtree v. Garland Supreme Court case which focuses on Second Amendment rights of people who have been convicted of various crimes. This case is important in light of the prior Kanter dissent by ACB and also other Second Amendment cases the Supreme Court will review like NYSRPA v. Corlett.

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court Monday declined to take a challenge to a Wisconsin law banning state residents who have been convicted of felonies – including non-violent crimes – from owning handguns for the rest of their lives.

Leevan Roundtree challenged his conviction after police found a revolver and bullets in his home and charged him in 2015 with possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction. Twelve years earlier Roundtree pleaded guilty to failure to pay child support for more than four months, a felony in Wisconsin.

This man had hi rights denied because of not paying child support. He tried to get them back..

I feel like felonies are thrown around a bunch. Writing a bad check is a felony as is raping and murdering someone. I’m not defending someone who writes a bad check, especially maliciously, but I’m not sure that calls for everything that goes along with being a felon. Non violent felonies are certainly different those involving violence. I’m not sure that non violent felons that have paid their debt through whatever punishment the court found appropriate at the time should continue to be punished or denied rights.

Why I posed this question is IF the law goes forward ... Many of us could be charged with a felony just by walking into Walmart to buy flashlight batteries... One bends down to buy something off a bottom shelf and your gun shows or prints.. .. Some karen runs to security and next thing John Law is slapping the bracelets on you ... Charging you with a felony.

One of my employees, has a rather colorful history committing dozens of felonies daily. Completely unrelated to the bad shit he was doing, it It finally caught up to him with a aggravated DUI without a licence charge that he did 2 years for. He absolutely does not want to go back and has turned his life around, thus far being a productive member of society.
He paid the penalty for his mis-doings. I see no reason he should be barred for life from owning a firearm.

If you can't trust him with a gun, why'd you let him out.

All the laws amount to a "pretty please" in light of the fact that you can get a gun as easily as a crack rock, and probably from the same dealer.

Unless they plan to make guns somehow less legal than heroine and fentanyl, it's not going to change.

Exactly. This is literally a second class citizen. If you're walking around free it shouldn't be the case.
