TAKING THE GRANDSON OUT SHOOTING.

THIS IS FROM LAST FALL I TOOK MY 4 YEAR OLD GRANDSON OUT SHOOTING A FULL SIZE SINGLE-SHOT MOSSBERG 22LR RIFLE.THIS WAS HIS FIRST CRACK AT IT, SINCE THEM HE GOT A NEW SAVAGE RASCLE 22LR RIFLE FOR X-MAS. I TAKE HIM TO THE SHOOTING RANGE SO HE CAN PICK OUT HIS OWN TARGET. NEXT TO HIM SHOOTING IS A 10" STAINLESS RUGER MARK-2 PISTOL THAT HE LOADS BY HIMSELF AND SHOOTS.

SINCE THEN HE HAS BECOME A FAIRLY DECENT SHOT IF HE TAKES HIS TIME AND CONCENTRATES ON HIS SHOOTING.

I LET HIM SHOOT ABOUT A HUNDRED ROUNDS EACH SHOOTING SESSION. HIS PATTERN JUMPS TO ABOUT TWICE THE SIZE WITH THE PISTOL FROM THE RIFLE.

WE TAKE SNACKS AND SOME COKE ON ICE AND STOP ON THE WAY HOME FOR ICE CREAM.

That's some REALLY good shootin' for such a young tyke!! It's GREAT to see Grandpa spending this quality time with his young protege!

He is actually a better shot then a friend I go shooting with.

The left target is my friend "Bill's" target useing a couple of his handguns.

The right target is mine, the top group in the head area is from a older 7 1/2" 357 magnum Redhawk,
The bottom group in the chest area is from my 6" stainless 357 magnum Ruger GP100.
I had a hodge-pod of mix & match bullets to burn up, some new, some old, some re-loads I picked up at the gun shows.
I started reloading so things will get better.
I loaded a bunch of test rounds in 38spl to start with.
160 grain FMJ bullets.
I used several different types of powder, starting with the minimum powder charge on up to the maximum charge.

I'm going to work up 38spl loads and 357 magnum loads for several of my revolvers I will be shooting semi-seriously and the same 38spm& 357 magnum loads for my Ruger 77/357.

Some people just can't shoot worth a damn. The hole between the targets and the four below belong to Bill, the cardboard was new so thee were no holes in it before we started shooting.

That's awesome. Reminds me of when I was his age and my dad took me to the range to shoot .22 rifles, and would stand near me making sure I was practicing safe gun handling & doing everything right. As a result, I became an avid target shooter and joined a local rifle range as an adult. I think if we had more parents and grandparents like this, more kids would have respect for firearms & know how to safely handle a firearm.

That's what life is about, he is well informed on guns and looks forward to getting out shooting. I'm glad your father took the time with you when you were younger. My father died when I was eleven and never took me shooting, it came about on my own doing. I traded some stuff for a old savage model 87A 22lr semi-auto rifle. An old Italian neighbor use to buy me 22 shells and I'd go shooting. I traded that gun off decades ago and I recently picked up two of them just because I wanted them for my two grandsons once they get that far.
