Tale of Two Rugers

I guess I'm a big fan of Ruger rifles. I own five of them. Well, only four if you don't count the ones with the Brownells BR-22R receiver. That gun has only a Ruger trigger and bolt.

The rifles below are my Ruger American 308 Win, Magpul Hunter and a Ruger 10/22 Carbine built from spare parts from two other projects.

I bloodied the 10/22 buy shooting one of those squirrel that like to annoy me while I'm sitting for deer.

I think the American is over-built for the original purpose. I got the long-range shooting bug and I bought the magpul stock and Witt Machine break to tame it. But, it's a little heavy and unwieldy in the woods. I'll probably pick up a 30-30 for next year.

I have quite a few tigers in the stable, myself. Picked up a #1 about 6 years ago because I didn’t have a falling block action. They make some pretty nice stuff.

If you're a Ruger fan you need to get your hands on an used stainless M77 with the paddle stock. glad I got mine before the prices went threw the roof.

The prices are already thru the roof for one of the ugliest rifles made, IMO. But many Ruger fans have been in love with those rifles for a long time.

Those American rifles are a great value in the new rifle market these days. Have been selling them in 450 Bush and 350 Legend to guys looking for alternative calibers. The 450 Bushmaster with the short barrel is super.

I’m not a Ruger guy but I have bought a American 22lr and a American in 6.5 for my wife to use. She like the 22, haven’t shot the 6.5 yet.

my BRN22R 10/22 Tactical Target 22 has the Magpul hunter stock. I also havethe Magpul Hunter 700 for my Remington 700 6.5 CM Tactical Target rifle.

Have the Ruger American in 22lr also! But my favorite is my 77/22 with a Shilen barrel!

Most of my experience, which is none lol, comes with friends that have had older ones. Some loved them, some didn’t but they all said the accuracy wasn’t that great. That is my reason for not considering them for myself. In recent years, I have read a lot of positives about the newer stuff.

My most accurate 10/22s have Green Mountain barrels. My Ruger American is accurate with the proper loads, but it is also modified as the photo shows. All my Rugers are modified. Some are minor... others are completely modified.

It's kinda the fun of Ruger's let's see if I can make good rifle a better rifle!

What is the weight of it? I find barrel length to be more troublesome

I haven’t weighed it. The Witt Machine clamp-on brake adds a few inches.

My tikka t3x ctr 308 20” barrel comes in around 11 or 12lbs. It’s very handy in the woods.
